Getting Started
Welcome

Welcome to the Help & Manual Forums! I started this site in the summer of 2002 as a way to communicate with other H&M users. Since then it has grown into a valuable online resource and knowledgebase for everyone who produces help and documentation with H&M.

Before you post questions here please first take the time to become familiar with the program! Read the help, use the other resources described below and use the Search function in the forum. Most beginners' questions have already been answered and you will find plenty of information. (Note: The sections Tutorials & Guides, Tips & Tricks and Templates & Utilities are only included in Search when you are logged on.)

How to Get Started

If you are just getting started with H&M please first read the extensive documentation included with it! This documentation is also available online. Even though it is easy to use, H&M is a powerful and complex program. It is also very different from the word processors you may be familiar with and you will need to learn some new concepts before you can use it efficiently.

Resources

Check out the \Samples subdirectory in the H&M program directory on your computer, where you will find several excellent tutorials and sample projects.

If this is your first experience with help authoring you will need at least a basic understanding of online help formats like WinHelp and HTML Help. Check out the links in the list on the left, they will help to speed up your learning curve.

When you feel ready to learn more have a look at the Tutorials & Guides, Tips & Tricks and Templates & Utilities sections in the forum. There you will find plenty of ideas on how to get more out of H&M and produce better help and documentation.

Have fun!
