Re: Topic links from H+M

Hi Gareth, I'm assuming you are publishing your WebHelp with the no server option activated. I need to look at this to see what you're doing. Please pack the following in a zip and send me a download link at support AT ec-software.com (replace the AT with @): Your .xplain source file A small demo pr...

Re: Topic links from H+M

Hi Gareth, You can achieve this most easily and flexibly on a USB thumb drive by using HTML for both your Xplain presentation and your HM WebHelp project. You would then combine this with the HM2GO.EXE mini web server from the HM program directory and a small command batch file to start your Xplain ...

Re: TOC re-arranging

Hi John,

We received it with the Xplain showing the behavior you are getting. I can't reproduce it but our developers are looking into it.

Re: Topic links from H+M

Hi Gareth, Further to Alexander's comments on this, note that you will only be able to open the eWriter file with a link like this from an Xplain using the exec: method. You can't add a parameter after the filename, so you can't specify a topic to link to, which makes this not very useful for what y...

Re: Suddenly- a number of "Error while parsing tag "Topic""

Meanwhile, where does the 'check for XML well-formedness' happen? In SVN/GIT or in H+M? HM checks every topic when it opens it and when it saves it. However, any XML-aware system will also perform this check before manipulating the XML. When it tries to read HM topics, for example, it would check e...

Re: TOC re-arranging

I've noticed the same behaviour when moving topics via the arrows -- After I select a topic, click on an arrow and move it, the arrows lose focus (all 4 turn white) Could you provide a screenshot of a TOC in which this happens? Normally the arrow tools will be greyed out for the operations you can'...

Re: Suddenly- a number of "Error while parsing tag "Topic""

Hi Dale, Another possible cause of this is that you are managing your project in SVN and the version control system didn't complete its merging and diffing procedures cleanly. When this happens it leaves its placeholders between the regular XML tags and the check for XML well-formedness then fails. ...

Re: Topic links from H+M

Basically I want to put it on a pen drive and give it to the trainer so he can download it onto his laptop. That would be one of the reasons not to use WebHelp, of course. I only suggested it because it's the easiest option, all other things being equal. In this case you would theoretically want to...

Re: Suddenly- a number of "Error while parsing tag "Topic""

This is a known issue and is actually easy to correct. You will also see this in uncompressed projects. What happens is that in some rare cases a copy of some TOC entries is inserted incorrectly after the closing </map> tag in the main TOC file when you do copy and paste operations with the mouse be...

Re: Topic links from H+M

Hi Gareth, By default, HelpXplain is a web format, so I was assuming that your HM project would also be WebHelp (since you didn't provide any information on this). To link to that you just use a regular WebHelp URL, as you would to any other WebHelp collection. That is also by far the best solution:...

Re: Topic links from H+M

Can I add H+M topic links to a HelpXplain? If not what would be the best method? Certainly: You can add a web link to any element in a slide. Just click on the item in the HelpXplain editor to select it. Then look in the Properties panel on the right and open the Link & Interaction dropdown. Select...

Re: Error message when moving files

Hi Linda, That is just part of the regular XML header in every topic. How exactly did you perform the cut and paste operation? If you are cutting and pasting XML, you must paste into the XML editor tab, not into the regular editor, which is already a translation from XML (it does not translate paste...

Re: search replace for links

Hi Jamie, There isn't currently an option for that, unfortunately. What you can do is search in the topic source code with an external editor like the free Notepad++, which can search through multiple files. You need to have your project stored in the uncompressed HMXP format. Then you can search th...

Ok. Can you adjust the Table section in the mnl to be on three separate pages?
??? You can already do that with the page break options.
