Embedding images in rtf help file

Unread post by sberlow »

Hi there. Is there any way to actually embed images into a generated rtf (Word) help file rather than have links to images. Our client wants an rtf version of the help document as stand alone file. Thanks.

We don't recommend embedding images in RTFs because that makes an unnecessarily huge file -- often ten times as big or more than it needs to be including all the images. Instead, re-save the file in Word as DOC or DOCX and embed the images there.

Word 2007 and earlier:

1: Save your RTF as DOC or DOCX and make a backup copy of your Word document.

2: Open the document in Word and select "Links" in the Edit menu.

3: Select all the images in the Source File list. If you have a LOT of images you may need to do this in smaller groups of images.

4: Select the "Save picture in document" checkbox.

5: Click "Update Now".

6: Make sure "Save picture in document" is still selected, click on "Break Link" and confirm with Yes.

7: Repeat if you are working with groups of images instead of all the images.

Word 2010 and later:

1: Save your RTF as DOC or DOCX and make a backup copy of your Word document.

2: Open the document in Word and select "Edit Links to Files" on the lower rightin the Info screen.
