Re: Understanding HTML Templates

Hi Paul, I had thought the HTML Templates would cut down on the work of having to manually modify every page with similar content. The the HTML templates are most decidedly the wrong choice for achieving that. They have nothing to do with topic content. They only define the layout and functionality ...

Re: Understanding HTML Templates

Hi Paul, What am I missing? Basically, you are trying to run before you can walk here. Before trying to roll your own you need to get a basic understanding of how templates and skins work in Help+Manual, otherwise you're going to be very frustrated. These chapters in the help are a good starting poi...

Re: Relative Links from Snippets for same Anchor Names in Mu

Hi Benjamin, Don't despair -- I was only referring to the current situation, and things can change quite quickly in Help+Manual. Theoretically this should be solvable, since a link to an anchor only can only refer to the current topic, so HM should be able to fix this for PDF on publishing. I've ask...

Re: Restoring Compatibility with Current Tortoise SVN

Update: The current stable beta will now let you combine Tortoise 1.10.2 with Collabnet's 1.10.2 32-bit component. You can download it here:

https://www.helpandmanual.com/download/ ... p-v740.exe

Actually, it will allow any combination of 1.10.0 through 1.10.2, just to make sure. 8)

Re: Restoring Compatibility with Current Tortoise SVN

Hi Francis, That is, Tortoise has a 1.10.1 64-bit version available and the collab.net 32-bit clients that are available are 1.10.0 and 1.10.2. So I am out of luck getting the SVN functionality in H&M to work. This has only just cropped up: For reasons unknown, Tortoise has compiled their 1.10.1...

Re: Mysterious icon when showing paragraph and text marks

As you have guessed, that will be something that has come in from Word, which is so overloaded with arcane formatting that it frequently spits out stuff like this when you copy from it. It won't mean anything in HM, but if you are concerned about it I would just select that heading and then select C...

Re: Relative Links from Snippets for same Anchor Names in Mu

Hi Benjamin, Sorry, but there is no real solution for this. A target topic must be included in a topic link unless you are targeting the current topic. I know you are linking within the current topic, but if you are doing this in PDF you need to have a topic ID as a reference if the anchor is used m...

Re: Post processing of Word output

By the way, if your corporate identity also applies to HTML/CSS you might also like an option "not to prepend style names with 'p_' or 'f_' when publishing to WebHelp" . If it doesn't prepend that it would have to prepend something else. The entire functioning of the style system in HM, a...

Re: Post processing of Word output

Regarding output cleaning up, that would require a lot of study on DOCX standard, which is particularly complex, although it is a simple zip file with an internal structure that can be changed. The simplicity ends when you open the zip. The Word specifications are over 7000 pages, I believe. 8) Tip...

Re: Webserver for Webhelp - specifications?

Hi Dorte, Basically, any up-to-date web server will be fine. Effectively that means either Apache running on a Windows or Linux/Unix server, or IIS running on a Windows server. A Linux or Unix server running Apache is generally always preferable to a Windows IIS web server, but that doesn't have any...

Re: Variable for Total Number of Pages

Hi Rob, You can insert the total count with the undocumented <%TOTAL_PAGE_COUNT%> variable. This isn't documented as it significantly increases the publication time for PDF, forcing Help+Manual to generate all the pages twice: Once to get the layout and the total count, and then again to insert the ...

Re: Links Into Snippets

Hi Dreesore,

You can link to an anchor in a linked snippet as long as you know the name of the anchor. In the link dialog (double-click on it in the editor to redisplay) just type in the anchor name in the anchor dropdown instead of selecting it (it's an editable field).

Re: SVG graphic performance

Hi Simon, Background: Note that SVG rendering is processor only, since it's a script that's being run through an interpreter. The graphics card doesn't help with it (well, there are some solutions on mobile phones that can, but that's beside the point here). Also, as far as I know, SVG rendering is ...
