Re: ewriter publish problem

Hi Paul,

I just double-checked: Only the current 7.3.2 version of Help+Manual now includes support for EWriter with the new V3 format. That is the problem you are experiencing -- you need both the new skins and the version of Help+Manual that supports them. Have a nice weekend!

Re: Launch project from SharePoint

Update: Our developers confirm that you should not under any circumstances try to store, edit or load your Help+Manual projects in SharePoint. It is designed primarily for Office documents and will not handle other types of data well. It is also quite likely that it has a simple kind of internal ver...

Re: ewriter publish problem

Do I need to setup some things in order to make this work? I just used a test project and published with this V3 ewriter skin and of course chose E-book (exe) as publish format. That should be fine. Just grab the update to the current version of Help+Manual here and you should be good to go: http:/...

Re: ewriter publish problem

I haven't touched the skin. I just tried again and chose another one, but same error. I just double-checked this with a new download and installation and it's working fine. What version of Help+Manual are you using? You must be using the current version to use the new skins. This should be at least...

Re: ewriter publish problem

Hi Paul, That simply means that the skin has been damaged -- for example someone tried to edit the skin and activate the Layout template, which does not exist in WebHelp version 3. If you do that the skin will be made unusable and you will get exactly that error message. Try again with a fresh, uned...

Re: Launch project from SharePoint

Hi Paul, That's unfortunate because working on a network for any reason is always much slower than working locally. One of the huge benefits of using version control is that you don't need to work on the network any more and you get the full advantages of the local speed of your machine. However, I'...

Re: Change the background colour.

Hi Jamie, Here's the page in the Premium Pack help you're looking for: http://www.it-authoring.com/info/pp3help/sp03_resp_config_pagebg.html Note that 3.1 is quite badly out of date. Among other things you're still getting a FOUC (flash of unformatted content) when loading on slower connections, whi...

Re: Strange CHM size problem and page template detail

Hi Christoph, This sounds a little strange. It would certainly not be a problem to replace the description variable with TOPIC_TITLE_TEXT or even eliminate the description tag entirely for CHM, because it doesn't really server any useful purpose there. However, it is very strange that this should in...

Re: Launch project from SharePoint

Hi Paul, Is it (technically) possible and/or advisable to also move all these files to SharePoint? This would mean that I would launch a xxx.xmxp file from SharePoint. Publishing would than also be done within this SharePoint environment. SharePoint doesn't know anything about Help+Manual and Help+M...

Re: Structure for conditional versions

Hi John,

The "classic" skins are designed for "legacy" applications that are still using old versions of Internet Explorer. Otherwise they should not be used because they contain a lot of deprecated code and structures, including old framesets.

Re: Structure for conditional versions

Hi John, A quick convert using one of the default skins did not output the SVGs (which work in CHM) to the ewriter format. Which skins were you using and which SVGs are you using? Unless you're working in Windows XP or earlier, and provided your Internet Explorer is current (version 11 is now the on...

Re: Structure for conditional versions

Any thoughts on installing the WebHelp locally or better to stick with CHM? Instead of local WebHelp, use EWriter, at least if you are on Windows. That is "WebHelp in a Box" -- i.e. full WebHelp but in a single file with an embedded or separate viewer that behaves in a similar way to CHM,...

Re: Structure for conditional versions

Hi John, This approach is absolutely correct. Just a couple of comments: 2. Tag the topic files, with new topics getting the V1.1 .. tag 3. Apply the same tags to the entries in the TOC That's not strictly necessary as a 2-step process. By default, tagging in the TOC will automatically tag the linke...

Re: Chinese / English mixed content character spacing

Hi Danny, This will only work correctly if you either: 1) Use full Unicode fonts that contain all the characters for both Chinese and Latin characters in the same font, or 2) Use separate text styles with Latin and Chinese fonts for the English and Chinese texts. In addition to this you also need to...
