Re: ICanLocalize translation issues - what is non ICL work f

Hi Dave, Correct? No, you're over-thinking this. It doesn't need to create or re-create or restructure anything. The structure is already there and doesn't get touched, or need to get touched. It works directly on the XML files. It edits your HM project directly, just as if you were working on it di...

Re: ICanLocalize translation issues - what is non ICL work f

Hi Dave, I'm not grasping how the TMS works the magic here -- the magic being the ability simply to drop returned (translated) files into the H+M project, so that we can enjoy the automated output type (in our case, WebHelp). What you get back from a translator working with translation memory is a c...

Re: ICanLocalize translation issues - what is non ICL work f

ICL supports Help+Manual projects directly, provided you use the uncompressed HMXP format. Contact ICL support for more details. HMXP is really the format you should be using for all ongoing work. It supports granular backups, multi-user editing, version control, translation with external, XML-based...

Re: Date stamp in WinHelp output

Didn't realize it was straight HTML coding right there in the baggage file. Is there a way to tell where a given style setting is controlled (e.g., Configuration in the H+M project, CSS sheet somewhere in a skin, or directly on a given HTML baggage file)? Or a best practice for the process by which...

Re: Error when publishing as PDF

The images we used in the template were small company logo (6x), front page cover and last page cover. All the images were PNG with 300 DPI. These 8 images had only about 2 MBs. But when we tried to reduce the quality to 200 DPI the size of the template dropped by 30 MBs! And then it worked. We tir...

Re: Date stamp in WinHelp output

Add the font-family and optionally also font-size and color attributes to your style information in the code itself: <p style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000; position:absolute; right: 5px; top: 5px; text-align: right: white-space: nowrap;">Version...

Re: Language Setting unexpectedly affects date format

Andie, You can include specific formatting for each use of the <%NOW%> variable in a format string. See here: https://helpandmanual.com/help/index.html?hm_ref_variables_dates.htm If you need two versions for different versions of your project you can achieve this by inserting two versions of the var...

Re: Date stamp in WinHelp output

Hi Dave, If you're just using the version and it's global for the entire project then that's fine in both V2 and V3. Is it perhaps HM_HEADERBOX.html - and something like inserting Yes, but you missed the formatting requirement for the variable name and left out the % characters. <VERSION_BUILD> won'...

Re: Date stamp in WinHelp output

Hi Dave, There are a lot of variables you can use for this: https://helpandmanual.com/help/index.html?hm_ref_variables_global.htm You can also define your own variables. See the rest of that chapter for details on how to use them. Basically pretty much anywhere -- you can use the Variables tool in t...

Re: Error when publishing as PDF

Hi Kif, Do you get the same error if you use a different template? Try with one of the standard PDF templates supplied with Help+Manual. The most likely culprit in this case is one of the images in the template. You can try making a backup of it and taking the images out one by one and re-publishing...

Re: Error when publishing as PDF

Hi Kif,

This error usually occurs when your local disk is full and Help & Manual cannot write the temporary files for the PDF (which may be rather big, sometimes several MB per page). Check free space on your disk and make some free. :)

Re: Restoring Compatibility with Current Tortoise SVN

Hi Anders, This is necessary because Tortoise continues to not provide the 32-bit components with its 64-bit installation. These components are necessary on 64-bit Windows for 32-bit programs like Help+Manual to be able to communicate with Tortoise and SVN. You don't need the 1.9.4 version. You just...

Re: Link to CHM with subfolder

John, See Julio's instructions for creating links manually (I was going to add that next). The link from the Master TOC is in the Project Explorer (i.e. not from a page -- but directly from the TOC). Don't do this with runtime modules. That is self-defeating and bad practice. You can insert the CHM ...

Re: Link to CHM with subfolder

Hi John, Ah, when you said you were importing them it sounded as though you wanted to convert them to HM projects and keep their multi-level structure. You can link to an existing CHM like that without problems. You just need to select the CHM directly in the Help File: field in the Link tool. Then ...
