Re: PDF -- add section name to PDF Bookmarks

Hi John, Is it possible to influence the hierarchy of the bookmarks? Yes, but only by changing the structure of your TOC or the order of the user-created sections in your PDF template (the standard sections can't be re-ordered). The bookmarks TOC is a 1:1 representation of the actual structure of th...

Re: PDF -- add section name to PDF Bookmarks

Hi John,

You can only enter a variable or plain text in fields like the bookmark text field. You can't reference snippets there; snippets can only be placed on the page of a manual template section, using the snippet tool.

Re: Published TOC will not collapse entries

Hi Chris, I am opening them from hard disk, in file explorer, with either double-click or "open with...." And that is the problem. Modern browsers impose strict and often poorly-implemented security restrictions on scripted web pages when they are not opened from a web server. The main pro...

Re: Error opening file; cannot be found in archive

Hi Ga, It sounds as though there was some minor damage to the .hmxz that got fixed automatically when you unzipped and rezipped. Generally, we would recommend using the uncompressed HMXP format for ongoing work for everything except very small, quick projects. In addition to supporting things like m...

Re: Error opening file; cannot be found in archive

Hi Ga, This message normally means that your HMXZ project file is damaged or corrupted. This is quite rare, and when it does happen it is usually the result of network errors while saving on a network drive or a drive error when saving on an unreliable drive, for example a USB thumb drive. Unfortuna...

Re: Warning: Don't install the Windows 10 April Update yet

Hi Tobias, We'd normally put something like this on our news blog but since this is not happening on all computers I'm not sure whether it's advisable to put out a scare like that more officially or not. We're going to discuss it. As for newsletters: We're being very careful about those at the momen...

Warning: Don't install the Windows 10 April Update yet

Please don't install the Windows 10 "April Update" yet if you can possibly avoid it. This update has been a mess so far and is causing serious problems on many computers. On some of our machines the Visual Studio 2015 development environment stops working completely and programs compiled w...

Re: Russian long date format

Hi Rodrik, What is your Windows language and system locale set to? The date strings get their formats and content from the Windows settings, so if Russian in Windows does it right you should be getting the right result. If your system is set to Russian and it's still wrong the error is in Windows......

Re: Confused on chapter/title numbering

Meanwhile, we're so close... and yet so far. If the numbering can be applied to the TOC but not the topics, there must be a reason. Outside looking in, if one is possible, the other is as well... is there some code that our CSS guru can add that will bring numbering into the topics as well? I'm afr...

Re: Confused on chapter/title numbering

Hi Dave, That's it! 8) Note that if you click on the Help button you'll get popup help for every setting in Toolbox. I'm afraid there's no way to get the numbering in the topics. The WebHelp numbering is currently only generated in the TOC itself. You can learn about how to configure the format stri...

Re: Confused on chapter/title numbering

Hi Dave, If you're getting that it definitely isn't activated in the skin (the setting in the project is irrelevant if you're using a skin). One thing that can easily happen is that you might be editing a one copy of the .hmskin file and publishing with a different one. In the Publish screen, select...

Re: Confused on chapter/title numbering

For Webhelp, I also see that this kind of numbering can be turned on in Configuration > Publishing Options > Webhelp > Navigation. But that setting is overridden by the Webhelp skin, right? The Navigation section is overridden by the skin, so it is also accessible in the skin. If you set the settin...

Re: Format text to the bottom of a page?

Hi Christian, If you want a footer in PDF you need to add it to the PDF template, not your project. You can source the text from your project using the text snippet function in the Insert menu in PDF Manual Designer. You create a topic for it in your project without a TOC entry, which you do by crea...

Re: Ewriter exe file property versions

We're putting this on the Wish List for future versions. Supporting this is technically possible but non-trivial. In addition to the version number it should also be possible to include things like copyright etc., and it would also need to work both with single-file EWriter books (viewer and book in...

Re: Suggestion for image toggles - setting expanded size

This is already implemented in a slightly different way in the Premium Pack skins. There, a toggle image will never expand to be larger than the current browser window. If the native resolution is larger a (+) icon is displayed, with which the user can expand the image to full size if they want.
