I don't know if this might apply here but it's related. I have a project with many screen shots in it (173) and about 280 pages of text. It was compiling a PDF that was 10 mbytes. I decided to trim the screen shots as much as possible and also removed a few lingering png files and 256-color bmps. Th...

I side with Thomas. Having the red comment pin automatically appear/disappear saves me a lot of time when I put in one of my notes and then delete it after dealing with it. I don't have to change the status as well. This allows me to work with a succinct set of statuses supported by freeform comment...

I agree with Martin and Paul. The Alt key should not be dedicated to one function. I use it for custom shortcuts in more applications than H&M, as do many others I'm sure, and re-assigning will require the breaking of many established habits. Like Paul, I have a lot of style shortcuts that use A...

Hi Tim, I did some checking. This only happens if I am inserting some words in the middle of an existing line in a paragraph. If I am adding new words at the end of the last line in the paragraph it doesn't happen. I click between two words in an existing line, hit Ctrl-I, and start typing. When I r...

Toggle image size when viewing scaled/toggled image

I convert all screenshots to image toggles, using 44% for the thumbnail size. This is large enough to identify the window in question but not large enough to make out many details. Sometimes while I am working in the editor, it would be nice to be able to toggle to the full-sized image to study the ...

HM4: Line wrap in topic turns off italics

Version 4.5.1, build 1371 Typing in a normal paragraph in a topic, I press Ctrl+I to turn on italics while I type. When the cursor wraps to the next line, italics turns off all by itself. I compiled the topic to PDF to check if this was just a display problem, but the italics is also turned off in t...

Hi David, The Long Project Report (Tools>Reports) will list all topic links ("Refers to:") in each topic. This is a list of the Topic IDs of the topics being linked to. You have the option to display the report in an external browser. Once there, you can use the browser's Find function to ...

Martin, Thanks for the laugh! Dean PS. How is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch pronounced? (And can you say it three times fast?) Never mind - I found the pronunciation on this page: http://www.anglesey-history.co.uk/ (And have decided that it's impossible to even say...

Hi Arnor, I'm afraid there's no sorting function in H&M4 topics, in tables or list formats (only in the TOC and what the index does automatically). As a kludge, you could copy the table to Word, sort it there, and then copy it back to H&M and reapply styles. The best way to try to get this f...

Hi Matthew, I believe that the H&M help is misleading when it says that page breaks are allowed inside table rows. I think what it means is that automatic page breaks are allowed, not manually inserted page breaks. In other words, the software will put a page break in a row when it reaches the b...

Hi Capt., The only think I can think of is to have the buttons be links to alternate pages that have the same text styled in a larger style, or that use a different topic template that has been edited to add CSS codes for larger fonts. If you embedded the topic contents from the original topic, you ...

Hi wfz and Tim, If this is only for printed/PDF output, I believe you would be able to force the pages to line up properly by inserting manual page breaks, although it would be tricky to set up the first time. For each topic, you would have: Instructor page 1 page break Student facing page 1 page br...

Hi Chris and Hasso,

Why would you not simply compile to RTF in the first place? Or use a PDF editor, such as Foxit (recommended by Tim; I haven't used it yet) or Acrobat itself?

Just curious - thanks,
Dean

Hi Jaclyn, I couldn't find a place to change the alt content of the TOC icons. In Project Properties > Browser Based Help > Table of Contents, you have the option to Edit the Html directly, but I didn't see any code that related to the actual placement of the icons. The TOC position is marked by a v...

Hi Jaclyn, To be absolutely sure that the alt tags are null, you can compile the project and take a look at the resulting htm files yourself. Any text editor will work. Simply do a Find Next for "alt". The file names will be based on the topic IDs. Find one that you know has graphics. You ...
