Also, if you had an auto-numbering feature, you would need to be able to select images to include, and those to leave out. I wouldn't want the image of a button used in the text of my help to be included along with the larger reference images.

Sounds like you need to localize your help based on whether you're sending it to the U.K. or the U.S.A. Maybe conditional tags....

Hear, hear! I'd also like to see less of these anchors (less per anchor, not less anchors per document). :)

Fair point Jonathan, for electronic documentation you can omit the index where it is made redundant by full text search, but you do need it for printed output. Agreed. One of our principal reasons for choosing H&M when moving from RoboHelp, was to enable to easily support both paper and electro...

One thing I've done is create the topic location information in the Topic ID. After a two character prefix to distinguish my project from others in my group, I'll include abbreviated names of all the parent topics of a topic in the ID, thus knowing where it should go. For example: PC_Parent PC_PR_Ch...

One of the difficulties in this is related to how a writer writes. If I reference other ideas in my topic, pointing the user to topics with the information they want, those references, by using this automated script, will be included in the index, when IMO, they shouldn't be. Because they would be r...

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I was on a week long trip, then didn't see the thread when I got back. I did find the solution to this particular problem, though, and thought I'd put it in here. The problem came from the Display settings, Appearance Tab, in the window opened when you click the Effe...

Hi Bobby, You can print a single chapter with all of it's sub chapters with the Print command, using Select Topic as the option. This will disregard any conditional content tags you've included. You can mark topics and chapters with conditional tags on the Topic Options tab for each topic. There are...

Image Clarity Help Needed

I didn't know which forum to put this in, so if you want to move it, Tim, feel free. I just switched machines at work, from a Dell desktop to a IBM Thinkpad notebook. After getting everything working properly, I went to create a screenshot for a presentation I need to do next week, and when I loaded...

Simon says, I'd like to understand more about scenarios where a user shouldn't see parts of the documentation. Two points. First, the administrators at the offices for which we write software don't want every base level employee knowing everything the software can do. We have one administrator who t...

Where do you want to add it? In project properties, common properties, title & copyright, there's a place for the Author of the project (which in our company is the company) and a field for the Help Title, which will be shown at the top of the window (for CHM help) and can be used as a variable ...

All, An idea we're toying with is using our user's logon to determine their security level, then changing the help call to point to the help file with the appropriate information. Doing this would require separate compilations for each security level, and might still allow the user to browse to the ...

Tim, How much trouble have you had with gmail accounts? When I got mine, it was by invitation only, and though I can invite others to become gmail users, there is a limit to the number of invitations I can send (15, I think). I know this isn't a foolproof way to keep people from using gmail as a spa...

It could be that the < select > is being read as HTML when you don't want to to be. If so, you may need to use different characters to set off the word.
