Re: CHM Output Questions

Possibly, but there may be problems -- when Microsoft hides something like this without explaining why there is usually a landmine waiting to be discovered somewhere. It can also create headaches for layouts, but that's a design problem not a fundamental problem. 8) Well. there are always problems....

Re: CHM Output Questions

"No copy on Ctrl+C:" Sounds like your application has the clipboard open. Be sure that your application has done a clipboard.close before calling Help. Thanks. Unfortunately I am not even opening the clipboard so there is nothing to close... but maybe there is a bug in a component I'm usi...

Re: CHM Output Questions

Hi Albert, The trick is also described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240062/en-us I didn't know that one myself. Note that this button will only work if you set your font size encoding to percent % or ems in your HTML Export Options. 8) Hi Tim and Alexander, Thanks! This worked for the font...

Re: CHM Output Questions

Hi Albert, Font Size Button: There's no easy way to do this, you'll need to try something like the code that Malcolm provides in the thread you refer to. Thanks. Not important enough for me to mess with if it's not "easy". Help Viewer Theme: This depends on how you call your help file. If...

CHM Output Questions

1. Is it easily possible to add a "font" button to the toolbar (to change font size) as I have seen in other CHM help files, like the PHP help file? Another thread I saw on this seemed to say the answer was "no, not easily". (http://helpman.it-authoring.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&...

Bugs in HTMLHelp tend to be insoluble, so my applications now launch a separate process to display HTMLHelp. HHkey.exe is the one I use. When the main application closes it also terminates the process-id of the HTMLHelp process, if it is still open. Thanks for the tip. I may go this way eventually ...

Well, I'm still having this issue. It's been awhile and I haven't put much further investigating into it but perhaps someone will know? Fortunately I haven't been getting any complaints about this but I am sure it has affected some people who actually use the help. :) The HTML Help window becomes un...

Thanks! Works great. I may have to make more use of that "Insert Plain HTML Code" feature.

HTML clear all?

I have an image that has an alignment of "left of text". Is there a way to clear the alignment on a subsequent paragraph or image (like the HTML clear="all" or CSS clear: both)? The below screenshot shows what can happen with things keep getting aligned to the left without a way ...

OK, thanks for the info.

Suggestion: Until this issue/limitation is resolved, display a tip/info box that warns about the potential problems if an anchor ID is changed (with an option to not display the tip/info again).

Changing Anchor ID doesn't update links to it

I changed an Anchor ID and noticed that the links to it were not updated to the new ID. I assume this is a bug. I'm not sure if it has been reported before but thought I'd mention it.

Thanks all, but I still have the "strange problem". I suspect it has something to do with calling HtmlHelp() from a DLL. I guess I won't use the ShellExecute() method, though I thought it would be smart enough not to open two help files (two instances) at the same time. I may experiment wi...

Hi Martin, That sounds exactly like the issue I'm having. It seems then that most applications (including H&M) work as if the help is called as a stand-alone application (like with ShellExecute()). Perhaps I should switch to this method? Perhaps this is how all/most of those help components call...

Hi Van,

Yes, but there's something I'm missing. It seems lots of programs, including H&M use modal options dialog boxes but their help files are still accessible without problems. It seems some exception is made for the help.

Thank you! I think I will just use 0, but I still have the problem of the help file not being usable (computer "gongs" when the user clicks on it) when certain (modal) options dialogs are displayed and the help was already showing before the options dialog was displayed. I don't know what'...
