Hi,

You can also monitor API calls to a .chm file with the View > HTML Help Messages facility in HTML Help Workshop.

Hi, JP, If you're receiving the error message "No topics found" when you conduct a search, the chances are that one of the DLLs that the Help compiler uses is missing or registered incorrectly. You could try the fix described in the following article, and then recompile your help project. ...

Hi, Patrick, I think this is likely to be a Windows security restriction that Microsoft introduced a few years ago to prevent the spread of malware through downloaded .chm files. You may need to "unblock" the .chm file, as outlined in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article: http://support.m...

Hi, kurgbe,

Binary TOCs do have some drawbacks, as outlined in this MSDN article:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... S.85).aspx

It's usually best to stick with non-binary TOCs, if you can.

Re: Jump1 & Jump2

Hi, Marcus, 1) One target (which doesn't work) is to a h t t p s website. So the first question is whether this is possible or not? Based on my results, I'm guessing not. The way to work around this issue is to compile a redirector topic like the one below into your help file, and then make this the...

Hi, Robert,

There's a free tool called CHM Link Checker with which you can check all links from one .chm file to another. Perhaps this will help.

Hi, K27, Can you clarify what you mean when you say that you recently had Microsoft patch 896358 disabled? After the 896358 update has been installed, it's not possible to view the topics in remote .chm files unless you make the registry changes that are described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article...

Hi, The HTML Help API provides an HH_DISPLAY_SEARCH command with which you can select the Search tab of the help viewer (and there are HH_DISPLAY_TOC and HH_DISPLAY_INDEX commands for selecting the other tabs). You may find this publication by Microsoft Help MVP Rob Chandler useful (I assume that yo...

Hi, Heidi and Tim, If you make a topic file like the one below the target of the Jump button, the executable should launch when the user clicks the button. <html> <body onLoad="hhctrl.Click();history.back()"> <object id="hhctrl" classid="clsid:adb880a6-d8ff-11cf-9377-00aa003...

Hi, Just to add that, although Microsoft's HTML Help documentation and Help Workshop tool don't make any mention of it, it is possible to add a Font button to the toolbar of the HTML Help viewer. However, the technique requires you to edit the window settings in your HTML Help project (.hhp) file in...

Hi, Martin, 1. When F1 is pressed the CHM appears on top of the app which is fine, however when I try and select the app behind the help guide it does not come to the front, but stays behind the greyed-out CHM. See if this helps: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6889 2. The C...

Hi, John, As I understand it, you use the TopicID property to pass a context integer to the .chm file — in other words, the number that is mapped to the topic ID in your resource (.h) file. So, this is equivalent to the HH_HELP_CONTEXT command provided by the HTML Help API. The Topic property passes...

Hi, Patrick, I believe you'll need to use the window.onbeforeprint event to invoke a JavaScript function that expands all the dropdown sections. If you wanted to, you could also use the window.onafterprint event to collapse the sections after the page has been printed. The script looks roughly like ...
