Re: Keywords

Hi Sean, Keywords are entries in the Keyword Index tab in the left column. You can add keywords to a topic as you write (highlight a word, then Ctrl+K), or you can add and edit keywords in the Topic Options tab, or both. The latter method has the advantage that you can create a structure in the Keyw...

Re: Google indexes H&M pages with "printWindow" in URL

The first Google problem that you have is that you have activated the option to reload the topic page with the TOC if it is opened on its own. This option is now always off in all current skins and should never be activated if you want to be indexed by Google. It is actually surprising that Google ...

Re: Flat Look CHM SKin

Hi Alan, That's down to the manifest file included in or with your application. Windows matches a CHM to the calling application's manifest settings. If you open the HelpMan.chm file by itself, you will see that it matches yours: hm_chm.png Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\EC Software\HelpAndManual7\He...

Re: Image PNG and BMP selection

Hi Alan, Which output format? BMP files are not normally be used in HTML formats (Webhelp, CHM, EWriter). It's possible that H&M is loading the BMP file and converting it to PNG for the HTML output. That conversion may fail if a PNG with the same name already exists, and that PNG then gets used ...

Re: General State of CHM Help

Can I distribute CHM and expect all users to be able to open them without security warnings or error messages about missing support and use the popup tooltips as they used to? Hi Alan, If you want an excellent modern replacement for distributed Help, have a look at H&M's "EWriter" opt...

Re: Topic Conditions

I run into problems, though, if I need to include or exclude entire rows or columns Hi Rainer, Is this for HTML or PDF output? If you are interested only in HTML, you can do most things with a bit of scripting, inserted using the HTML Code Object function, or via the topic template. For example, if...

Re: Equivalent to Word's CTRL-Y (apply last edit)

Hi Dave,

Don't forget you can always use the accelerator keys. For the Format Painter press ALT, W, F, P in order. Depending on your system settings, you may need to hold down ALT.

The same for any other function. They announce themselves on the ribbon when you press ALT.

Re: Equivalent to Word's CTRL-Y (apply last edit)

Hi Dave,

Have a look at the Format Painter function to apply the same manual formatting repeatedly. See: https://helpandmanual.com/help//index.h ... manual.htm > +Using the Fomat Painter tool

Re: SVG graphic performance

If I were able to rely on the PDF OLE function, that would be a good solution, but its not solid. Hi Simon, I don't understand what is different if you link the PDF file to a PNG thumbnail image on the page? They click it, it opens in a PDF reader, they print it. Just as the OLE option would do. OL...

Re: SVG graphic performance

To be honest, I've never understood "baggage files", so had no idea that they could be used this way. So, effectively I could supply nothing more than a TOC then, right? Unfortunately, our customers like to print the manuals and keep hard copies Hi Simon, Not just a TOC. Each page would h...

Re: SVG graphic performance

Hi Simon, If you've got working PDFs, why not just put them in the Baggage Files rather than try to insert them in the topics? Users could then click on a link in the topic to open them for printing or zoomable viewing. The link could be a plain text link, or a smaller PNG image of the drawing. chee...

Re: SVG graphic performance

Re: Understanding HTML Templates

Hi Paul, You can do what you want with the HTML topic page templates, but it gets a bit involved if you are also using a skin. If you just want some identifying header information on a topic page -- "This page is about Product A" -- "This page is about Product B" -- the easiest w...

Re: SVG graphic performance

Hi Martin, is EMF metafile format more complicated to work though? Hi Ethan, Can you clarify what you mean by "complicated to work"? It is just the same as any other image -- you export/save as a file in EMF format from your application, and then insert it as an image in H&M. It's not...
