Re: Need help noodling 1-stop maintenance for pop-ups & a to

Hi Dave, There is no need to upload your snippets separately from the topics. H&M will fetch the snippet from the snippets folder on your computer and insert it into the topic when it creates the published topic page. Don't forget to include your snippets folder in the project search path. More ...

Re: Need help noodling 1-stop maintenance for pop-ups & a to

Hi Dave,

Put the content in a Snippet. Then insert the snippet in the pop-up, and in the "terms" topic.

There is only one Snippet, and you edit it in one place only. Both the pop-up and the "terms" topic change when you do that.

cheers,

Martin.

Re: WebHelp back-arrow - why can't we go back?

no idea what F7 browsing is. Hi Dave, In most browsers (I think in Chrome it requires an add-on) you can press the F7 key to toggle "caret browsing" on and off. The caret is the flashing vertical line which shows where text is being edited. Some folks call it the cursor, although technica...

Re: WebHelp back-arrow - why can't we go back?

The perfect solution is to (re)place the cursor where the reader left the text to pursue the link Hi Dave, But that is exactly what happens in Chrome (on Windows10) for me. The Back button jumps back to the exact place where the link was clicked. Either on the same page, or a different page. I will...

Re: WebHelp back-arrow - why can't we go back?

Hi Dave, Going back to your original question, I've been testing in Chrome, and I can't reproduce the problem in any form. Anchors and the browser Back button work fine every way I have tried, on the same page or between pages. Are you sure you have the latest version of Google Chrome? A re-install ...

Re: Might we use Text Conditions to generate PowerPoint?

Hi Dave, H&M uses the excellent Inno Setup from Jordan Russell, which remembers previous install locations. You have now muddled that. Do this: Clicking the Browse/Choose button selects the existing folder into which an entire install will be made. So the folder you need to select for the instal...

Re: WebHelp back-arrow - why can't we go back?

Hi Dave, You can have an inline text toggle, which looks just like a link, but as far as I know it can contain only plain text, not an inserted snippet. H&M is restricted in what it can do by the need to compile to several output formats. And, how in the world do you obtain WebHelp output - or W...

Re: WebHelp back-arrow - why can't we go back?

Hi Dave, The "H&M way" to do this is not pop-ups, but Snippets. Create each definition as a separate snippet. It then needs to be maintained and edited in only one place, your Snippets folder. Your "terms" topic then becomes simply a list of inserted snippets. Don't link to t...

Re: WebHelp back-arrow - why can't we go back?

Hi Dave, I just tried the back-arrow-icon in Chrome and it's working fine here. Takes you back to whatever you clicked on last. Also if you hover over it, you get a drop-down list of recent locations, so you can jump back several links if you want to. Google Chrome Version 71.0.3578.98 (Official Bui...

Re: Scroll focus does not follow mouse position

Most Windows programs that I am aware of have the "scroll focus" follow the mouse position - if I scroll up and down using the mouse wheel, the scroll command goes into the window or frame where the mouse pointer is currently in. Hi Rainer, It won't help with H&M, but there is a setti...

Re: Keywords

Hi Sean, Keywords are entries in the Keyword Index tab in the left column. You can add keywords to a topic as you write (highlight a word, then Ctrl+K), or you can add and edit keywords in the Topic Options tab, or both. The latter method has the advantage that you can create a structure in the Keyw...

Re: Google indexes H&M pages with "printWindow" in URL

The first Google problem that you have is that you have activated the option to reload the topic page with the TOC if it is opened on its own. This option is now always off in all current skins and should never be activated if you want to be indexed by Google. It is actually surprising that Google ...

Re: Flat Look CHM SKin

Hi Alan, That's down to the manifest file included in or with your application. Windows matches a CHM to the calling application's manifest settings. If you open the HelpMan.chm file by itself, you will see that it matches yours: hm_chm.png Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\EC Software\HelpAndManual7\He...

Re: Image PNG and BMP selection

Hi Alan, Which output format? BMP files are not normally be used in HTML formats (Webhelp, CHM, EWriter). It's possible that H&M is loading the BMP file and converting it to PNG for the HTML output. That conversion may fail if a PNG with the same name already exists, and that PNG then gets used ...

Re: General State of CHM Help
