Wow, that's very dissapointing. Why is there no possibility to include variables in topics in HTML builds? Isn't there a possibility to make that part of the compiling process?
For my project, I rely strongly on variables..

I have tried making a new variable, setting it to HTML and then inserting the text into the value box. He is certainly not alone in this, I had the same question.
The solution that came to mind was to remove the <%topic header%> information from the default template.
