Bug: after customizing a skin, Save remains disabled

Bug: after customizing a skin, Save remains disabled if the file has been saved previously.

To enable Save, it is necessary to exit the Publish dialog and return to it.

Ditto after making changes in the Properties dialog.

build 4711.

cheers,

Martin.

Re: HX skin when inserted in H&M?

Alexander Halser wrote:When you insert this Xplain in Help+Manual, it is exported with the skin you had assigned to it in HelpXplain.

Thanks Alexander.

That wasn't happening in build 4710, but now in 4711 it is working fine. Thanks.

cheers,

Martin.

Re: Broken Help in HelpXplain

I'm not seeing those errors, but I am seeing content duplicated in places. For example in Introduction > The User Interface a screenshot and the text below it appears 3 times. I noticed the same thing in several other places. CHMs play up so often that I tend to ignore it. (Windows 10). cheers, Mart...

HX skin when inserted in H&M?

When publishing directly from HX it is possible to choose a skin for the Xplain, and the skin choice is saved in the .xplain file.

When inserting an Xplain in H&M (Insert Media), the choice of skin is ignored and only the default skin is available.

Unless I'm missing something?

cheers,

Martin.

Re: HelpXplain - output to something emailable?

Hi Martin, you're right in a sense. You and I probably know how to get around anything missing in HX or H+M, but that's not really the point of giving feedback. When I demonstrate HX to someone earning big bucks in IT, I don't assume they've much experience of documentation, web design, or even usi...

Re: HelpXplain - output to something emailable?

Hi Simon, HX already includes a stand-alone player. All that is needed is to record it with a screen recorder and export it as an animated GIF, for email etc. That takes only a couple of minutes. File sizes won't be too bad unless it contains JPG photos. This one is 127KB: martin-24-06-2019-21-04-58...

Re: Publish Format: Multi-Page GIF Image

I see that publishing to gif loses the animation part of the presentation. Will the animation feature be added at a later date? Most screen recording software can export animated GIFs. So it should be possible to record an animated xplain playing, and export it as a GIF. No video editing needed, so...

Re: Timing issue on menus in screenshots

Hi Tim, That was a spirited defence, but I'm not entirely convinced. Especially if you are claiming this as a direct replacement for screen-recording video -- in real life stuff doesn't get highlighted in advance. I can see less-savvy users getting confused. I can read the support emails now -- &quo...

Re: Every H+M user should try HelpXplain

Congratulations to Alexander and the team for HelpXplain. As you'd expect with a 1.0 release, there are a fair number of rough edges — I've already found a few to report — but that doesn't stop it from being a thoroughly useful tool. It's a really interesting idea and makes you re-think all sorts o...

Timing issue on menus in screenshots

Great to see HelpXplain finally released. Well done. :) I've been trying out the Screencast function as an alternative to video, and there seems to be an issue with menus. When the menu appears, the menu item which you are about to click is shown already highlighted before the mouse moves anywhere n...

Re: PP Problems on Phone

Hi Olivier,

I'm not seeing that effect on my Android phone, it seems to be working fine. Also fine in all the browsers I've tried (on narrowed windows).

Sorry about using a photo, getting a proper screenshot from Android is too much palaver:

Re: How to quickly insert links to another topic?

Or is there some logic that is being used to select the default topic and I just don't see the logic? Hi Debra, It's not random. The selected topic is the nearest alphabetical ID match to the text of the link you are creating. So if you write "see banana" , and then highlight "banana...

Re: List of Anchors

Hi Jamie, If you view your Webhelp in Firefox or Chrome, there is a nifty add-on which will display all the anchors on the page. Then a right-click on the displayed anchor and copy link location copies the page URL+anchor to the clipboard. I find it very useful: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/fire...

PageUp, PageDown keys in the TOC

I'm not sure if this is a wish list item, or a bug report. :? When the TOC has focus, it would be very handy (and logical) if the PageUp, PageDown keys moved to the next top-level topic/chapter/config item. Holding them down would then be a very quick way of moving through a long TOC. The right-arro...

Re: Image scaling

I have screenshots that should be displayed at their full width, if possible, and then scaled down if necessary. I have others that should be displayed at a maximum of e.g. 80 % of their true size, and then scaled down from there if necessary. But whether the maximum size should be 100 % of their p...
