Hi Jaclyn, Check this section in the online help: Navigation: Latest Updates > Changes Since Version 3 > The Editor > Font size preview setting I haven't played with it, but it looks like it describes settings that allow the help to adjust to the font settings the user chooses. H&M, in my config...

Yeah, the index is designed for online help, where you hyperlink to the start of the topic unless you want to put in anchors for internal hyperlinks. I believe that there is a wishlist item asking that the index always point to the absolute position of a keyword, but there are technical issues that ...

Hi Rachel, I'm not sure I understand the current state of your project, but for PDF output, the format is controled by Print Manual Templates (PMTs), which you edit with the Print Manual Designer (on the Tools menu). You can set up any number of PMTs and assign them to different projects as needed. ...

Hi bunnyslippers, I know of a couple of things that can make the index get out of sync with actual page numbers. First, the Acrobat Reader shows you a page count at the bottom that doesn't actually count the topic pages. (Page 1 of 16, for example) That count starts with the cover and includes the f...

Hi Iggy, I think you could get the entire picture to change by using an Image Toggle -- the second image showing the dropdown dropped; however, clicking anywhere on the image would fire the toggle. You could include a callout that pointed to the dropdown arrow, with text saying "Click here"...

Are you trying to run the CHM over a network? If so, the right side (content) will not display because of XP security blocks installed by Microsoft. However, you will usually see an error message or File Not Found in that case.

Hi Tim, In my case, the dialog does not remember anything from the previous screenshot toggle. Every time I capture or insert a new picture, right-click on it, and select picture > make picture a toggle, I get a virgin dialog with only the image file name filled in. (Version 4.5.0, Build 1344) What ...

Retain screenshot toggle dialog info while still in project

I toggle every screenshot to show a thumbnail with "Click for Larger Image" option. The only thing that I change from image to image is the tooltip for the collapsed version. I would love it if the information on the image toggle dialog was not forgotten when I saved and closed the dialog....

Hi Roy, This is a complete shot in the dark, but try running Repair and Recover on the new file. Since you started with an existing file and then made massive cuts, it's possible that there is something broken in the .hmx file that is causing the PDF compile to embed all of your fonts. (When in doub...

Hi Dorte, Yes, you can embed the font in the PDF so it won't matter if the user has it or not, but embedding a font will make the PDF file larger. If you are using the font only for the Registered symbol, subsetting should keep the increase down to a minimum. Unfortunately, I can't think of a font t...

I couldn't find an auto setting either, but you can assign a shortcut key to the Expand All function (Tools > Shortcuts, scroll down to Topics menu section). Then you could expand the TOC with a minimum of effort as soon as you open each project. If you leave the TOC expanded when you close the proj...

Hi Leonard, Check the settings of the column in your table and make sure the width is locked. That may do the trick. If it is already locked, I believe you're dealing with a "feature" of the browser. When the window is shrunk, it will adjust the items in the table cell as much as it can in...

Hi Leonard,

The syntax for td attributes must be valign="middle" not "valign: middle;" (i.e., not a style declaration).

Hope this helps,

Hi Mike, While you're waiting for the snippets feature in version 5, you can try a little kludge that Martin Wynne has posted here before: Copy stuff that you're going to reuse (empty tables, standard text, whatever) into an invisible topic with a name like _snippets. The underscore will make it sor...

Hi Tim, The problem is that H&M has so many powerful features that I don't use! My needs are pretty simple compared to the sort of work that really needs consultation. Probably better that I just check the forum regularly and answer the questions that I can. On the other hand, when EC Software o...
