Willem, This is all true. Actually, the editor engine in H&M does support setting individual cell border attributes. However, during the initial development of H&M4 it was decided to keep the options relatively simple to make them easier to use, also because help tends not to have such exot...

Re: callout edges rough

Is there a way to change this? The edges of the callouts are very rough. Hi Keith, Select the callout, and then Object > Anti-Aliasing > menu options. The snag with this is that it can smudge the callout text. I avoid this by leaving the callout text blank, and overlaying the text as a separate bit...

The reason why I was hoping you could link CHM files was to get around the inability to search across multiple manuals on the Web. Hi Cindy, The browser-based search function in H&M Pro works by indexing the output files from H&M, not by indexing the source topics. And it indexes ALL the fi...

Re: Finding conditional tags

Is there any way that you can "find" a particular conditional tag? Hi, If you swap to the XML view, you can search for conditional tags which look like this: <conditional-text type="IF" value="PDF"/> So if you do a search for the string type="IF" value="...

Hi,

The C:\WINDOWS\CURSORS\ folder is the usual location.

Just use the normal Windows Search function for *.cur files.

I wrote:Compile your project as a single XML file.
p.s. A simpler option is to create a Full Project Report including Image References.
You can then use Ctrl-F Find on Page to search for "embedded image".

Re: Quickly checking a complete project for embedded graphic

Is there a quick method of checking that a, say, 500 page document has no embedded graphics - only inserted ones? Hi John, Compile your project as a single XML file. Open it in a text editor and search for any " embedded-image " strings. The image data is between the <embedded-image... > ...

Re: Is H&M your first HAT?

Don't despair, Search and Replace Fonts is going to be back and stronger than ever in version 4.2 in June. :) Hi Tim, Very pleased to hear it. :) It was a mystery to me why it was ever dropped. While we are restoring useful HM3 features, please can we also have overwrite mode in the editor (so very...

Re: Is H&M your first HAT?

How did you come to Help & Manual? Is it your first (HAT) help authoring tool or did you switch to it from another tool or method of producing help? Hi Tim, I was using HelpScribble. H&M was getting high praise on a Delphi programming forum, so I gave it a try. No contest! That was HM3 of c...

Somewhere in the region of 90% of all users have it now and it loads automatically if you don't have it. Hi Tim, I think you are placing too much reliance on Macromedia publicity. I have one system where the Flash plug-in resolutely fails to install in Firefox. Only last week Microsoft suggested di...

This is the best solution for video in help because all other formats will generally fail to play on some users' computers, because they are either configured wrong or don't have the necessary codecs. Hi Tim, But this also applies to Flash. Some users won't have the required plug-in, or will have A...

When I create a new topic, H&M always puts "Enter topic text here" in the text area. Is there a way to prevent it from doing that? Hi, You need to create your own content template for new topics. You can have as many of these templates as you wish, to provide empty frameworks for new ...
