Hi "Snoopy", In PDF output tables can only break at row boundaries so if you have a single cell with a lot of content it will get truncated if it extends beyond the end of the page and the rest of the topic will not be printed. You must ensure that your table cells are all small enough to ...

It's impossible to say what the problem might be with such a small amount of information. First of all, create a new test project with a couple of short dummy texts and make sure that you can compile a functioning WinHelp file. If this works then the problem is in your RTF source. If this is the cas...

Elmira, when I change name of the topic to the russian one, it doesn't work. Are you referring to the caption in the TOC or the topic ID? Russian topic IDs cannot work you must use standard ASCII characters. Since the captions are not displayed in your output in popups the easiest solution here woul...

Martin, Update: Nothing has changed. What is happening is that the topic is defined as a popup. If you are using JavaScript popups it is exported to the popup .JS file, so it is there but not accessible unless you link to it. The same thing happens in CHMs with JavaScript popups -- it's there, but i...

Martin,

Hmmm... Thanks for noting this. This seems to have been changed since I wrote the help. I just tested it with CHM and the source topics in invisibles are no longer included unless there is an active link to them. I'm going to have to check this with Alex and possibly update the help... :?

This is not really possible because Help & Manual is a multi-output tool and it is not possible to create a realtime preview for eight completely different formats. However, you can already quickly preview your formatting and layout by compiling with the "Selected Topics" option in the...

Elmira, Does this happen with every project or just this one project? Try creating a small test project with a simple JavaScript popup -- do you have the same problem? If you don't then you may have a problem with something in the one project. Try deleting the popup topic and re-creating it. If you ...

Hi Javier, I can confirm the problem. What is happening is that H&M is merging the three tables to a single table when you paste. The workaround at the moment is to select and paste each table separately. I have forwarded your file to the developers and they will get onto fixing it. Thanks for r...

Martin, Isn't it always better to use an Invisible Topic for such embedded topic chunks? Yes, that's a standard part of using embedded topics, as described in the help. The only time you would embed a topic from the TOC would be if you also want to have it accessibel directly at one point in the TOC...

Hi Eric, How you do this really depends on how much common text you have in the two topics involved. If they share a lot of text it will generally be more practical to use one topic and conditional text. If they are very different it is generally easier to split it up into two topics. If you use two...

Hi Julie, This is not a Help & Manual problem but a programming problem -- something must be wrong with the way you are handling the calls to the popups from your application. You can find tutorials for programming calls to help in most current programming languages on the EC Software website: h...

Re: Importing Excel

Mark, I'm attemping to pull in an Excel spreadsheet as an OLE object. The spreadsheet is from A1 to BN36, quite wide. When pulling in as OLE object, the entire width of the spreadsheet does not come into H&M. What's probably happening here is that the spreadsheet is just disappearing off the sid...

Hi,

Could you send a sample Word page for testing to support, that would be very helpful. Just mail the single-page RTF or .DOC file to support AT ec-software.com (replace the AT with @). Thanks!

Jo,

If your files got corrupted it wasn't Help & Manual that did it -- it was interference from some other source while you were saving that caused the trouble, i.e. the interaction.

Waldemar,

Please don't make this change to hh.dat on your users' computers! This will prevent all CHM files on their system from remembering their settings and your users might put you right up at the top of their hit list (not in the positive sense) if this happens...
