Aline, First of all, when you copy text and graphics together from Word note that the images will get embedded in H&M. This inflates the size of your .HMX project file and uses up a huge amount of computer memory and resources -- many, many times the real size of the images. When you do this you...

Hi Aline,

Just right-click on the blue book icon in the TOC and select Open Child Project. This will open the child project for editing -- you will be asked to save the current master project first if it contains unsaved changes because the master must be closed before the child is opened.

You can turn it off if you want but you can't change it. Go to Project - Project Properties - Browser-based Help - HTML Export Options and deselect the option "If an image has no caption export file name as hint (ALT tag)" Note that the HTML Export Options settings are available in several...

This is the way to do it. Note, however, that changing the styles options in Help File View will make the change for all electronic output formats, i.e. HTML Help, eBooks, WinHelp and Visual Studio Help as well as Browser Help... :)

Hi Dave, I was away yesterday. Posts since last visit on logging on today reported as 56. But total of number of new posts + number of replies is 91. Are you referring to the "View posts since last visit" link on the portal page? The code in this page is quite old so I may have to see if i...

Hi Andy, I've talked to EC about this and it seems that this is actually a new feature. In the past it was possible to accidentally create "ghost" links -- i.e. a link without a caption -- if you deleted a link incompletely with the backspace or delete key. Now when this happens H&M au...

Amy, Tabs do not exist in any HTML-based formats, they are simply unknown. Thus, although you can use them in H&M because they will work in WinHelp, Word RTF and PDF it is generally strongly recommended that you don't use them. If you use tabs for formatting the result will be a mess in any HTML...

Dave, You just missed the information on a Microsoft update a few months ago. Microsoft no longer allows HTML Help files to be opened on the Internet or on network drives. If you save and open your HTML Help file on your local computer it will run normally. This now happens when any HTML Help .CHM h...

If you zip the project (just the .HMX file, no graphics) and mail it to support [at] ec-software.com we'll have a look at it and see if we can analyze the problem.

Not at the moment -- the new Project Synch function is also not designed to find changes on the content level, it compares projects in different languages and updates their structure on the topic level, adding new topics, removing deleted topics, moving moved topics and flagging changed topics. Howe...

Steve, This was only possible in H&M3 because it still used named anchors -- i.e. anchors that were attached to visible text or captions. In H&M anchors are not named, they only have IDs, so you have to enter them manually. There is no way around this. If you try to select text before select...

Hi Ray,

This is usually a reliable indication that you are using an illegal, cracked version of Help & Manual. These versions are not supported or tolerated on the forum.
