You would then have to explain to justifiably irate programmers why they need to re-program all their calls (possibly hundreds or thousands of them) even though they are working fine. A programmer who has accepted ID strings containing spaces, upper case, punctuation and other rubbish deserves all ...

Thanks--I know about clicking on the tabs but if I never had to grab my mouse, I can be much more efficient. Hi Ed, There are several keyboard macro programs which can be set up to simulate mouse clicks on buttons, tabs, menus, etc., by entering keyboard codes. Have a look at KeyText which is a ver...

The one question I have about the table solution is whether the sizing of column widths and row heights can always be trusted when used like this. Hi Jim, If you use the "Size table manually" option and set the table width, the column widths will always be maintained in the browser. Row h...

As an alternative: You can also achieve exactly the same effect by combining static callouts created with Impict with hotspots Hi Tim, You have lost me there. If the callout text is applied in Impict, by whatever means, it won't be in the HMX or XML files for editing, searching, translating, etc. W...

It would really be nice, however, if somehow those labels could be regular text in the help file somewhere, kind of like a caption. Hi Jim, You can do what you want using tables. It needs some planning though. 1. Create your image and add blank callouts (Impict is great for this). 2. Insert a table...

One more thing about the exported Context ID file. The file I'm exporting has from left to right, the #define, then the topic name, then the ID Number. The programmer says this is backwards. Hi Jerry, Tell the programmer not to be so feeble. :) Parse lines from the file into two indexed string list...

Just thought I'd comment that I know of no-one, corporately or socially, who has changed double click to single click on Windows and no IT Dept that has ever required or suggested it. I appreciate that you have strong opinions on the subject but I think you over-emphasize it. Hi John, Oh, I'm well-...

Most of our people work on many different PCs on many different client sites, none of whom have implemented this feature. Hi Steve, If I was responsible for computers on which others worked, I would make damn sure that I changed this option. Otherwise I would have knowingly not done everything I co...

Hi Steve, I've spent ages with the users drilling in to them that Windows requires you double click No it doesn't. It's merely an option. To change it go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > General tab. Select "Single-click to open an item (point to select)". This is not only ten t...

The piece I still need to figure out is "how do I translate all those hundreds of tried and true context sensitive ID #'s into file names Hi Jerry, In H&M, Tools > Help Context Tool... > Export Help Context Numbers . You can customise the output file for your compiler or for parsing by you...

Re: Option to expand BBHelp TOC chapter with single click

Proposal: 1. A new option should allow authors to remove the need for a double-click when the user wants to expand a chapter by clicking on its caption in the TOC. Seconded. I would like to ask for this option too. The cast-iron argument in its favour is that Windows uses only single-clicking in it...

Re: Context sensitive with browser based HTML?

Hi Simon, How do you re-use the same browser session for subsequent help calls? Why do that? Why not let the user have several browser windows open if they wish -- it could help with cross-referencing Help information. Many folks now have a multi-monitor system, so there is more screen space to play...

Re: Context sensitive with browser based HTML?

Hi Jerry, Am I on the right track here? If Winhelp is dead, and CHM is klutzy and broken, is Browser Based HTML the only way to go? Yes. and how can I do my context sensitive calls? On F1 keydown read the HelpContext ID for the ActiveControl, use it to do a look-up for the relevant topic, do ShellEx...

Double-clicking isn't common on the web. What's more, it's a major cause of RSI problems. Windows has a perfectly good option to remove double clicking (Folder Options > "point to select, single-click to open") which many users adopt, leaving this CHM navigation as just about the only pla...
