Hi Malcolm, This is a real kludge of an idea, and I haven't tried it, but it might work, or point you in the right direction: Create a new window type that doesn't have a header (in Project Properties > Help Windows). Use this window type for the last two topics in your help project. Use object embe...

Hi Heidi, If you are using the Print Topic function (which you can add to your HTML topic template by following the instructions in the H&M tutorial/sample project), your reviewers can print a single topic to mark up. This, combined with the reduced help derived by using the Selected Topics feat...

It does seem to me though that I need to brush up on my html etc if I really want to use the latest HATs properly. Any tips for some online tutorials? Hi Fabienne, I can't suggest a particular tutorial myself, but you'll find some HTML help links on the forum home page, in the right-column under th...

Hi Jon, It's possible that the individual tables are all enclosed in a single large table. In that case, they might be in a single row of that table. PDF won't put page breaks in the middle of a table row. I've seen that reported here before. If the entire HTML page you imported was formated using t...

Now that I see it, I realize I used it that way once before
H&M just has so many unbeatable features that it's impossible to keep track of them all!
Many thanks,

Add text below TOC in CHM output

In my browser-based help, via the BB Help TOC properties section, I added some text below the TOC to show the Revision Date (using the date variable). Is it possible to do the same thing with CHM help?

Thanks,
Dean

I agree that it would be nice to be able to see the topic content and the keywords panel at the same time while indexing. Perhaps the keywords panel could be undocked so it could float over the other panes?

Hi Natalie, Here's a possibility: I had a similar problem right after we changed our network servers. The locations of my help projects, images, and output files were all technically the same, but the names for the servers had changed. Each time I saved, compiled, added a screenshot, or otherwise ac...

Hi MADYMO, Try this: In the Print Manual Designer, select the Topics tab. Then select menu option Edit > Edit Properties (Ctrl+E). On the dialog that appears, select the This Section Only tab. In the top half of the dialog, you can specify the page break rules that apply when the Topics section firs...

Hi Tinjaw, The best way to learn is by example, and the help that comes with Help & Manual is an excellent place to start. Our forum moderator, Tim Green, wrote it. You will also find books about tech writing, some of which I'm sure are very good, though you do have to pay for them. I can't name...

Editing Hyperlink/conditional at line wrap: no caption

This is an odd one. It doesn't seem to affect output; only what you see while editing. I have an hyperlink embedded in a conditional: See [IF HTML] the corporate database documentation {line wrap} [END]for details. Note that there is a space between the end of the hyperlink caption and the END state...

I've been using Camtasia for three years and have been pleased with it for the most part. You want to make sure that your workstation has the required memory and processor speed, and it's best to work directly on your workstation rather than over a local network. That is, keep your project files and...

Hi Tim, I've started using image toggles for all of my screen shots, so they will be small online but can be enlarged (browser-based help). I also output everything to PDF, where the images are reproduced full size. I capture and save the images as indexed BMPs (some are 16-color and some are 256-co...
