No free trial on this computer?

My version of H&M is 8.3.0.5750 , and the maintenance has expired. As the maintenance renewal is quite expensive, I thought I would download the free trial of the latest H&M version to see if the changes are worth the cost. Or whether to carry on as I am and wait for the H&M 9 upgrade. B...

Re: Aligning tables with paragraph styles

The only way I found to see which style is currently set for a table paragraph is to look into the XML code. Am I overlooking something? Hi, Click here to see and edit the alignment settings for the containing paragraph: hm_para_icon.png (This icon could usefully be more prominent.) A paragraph con...

Re: Aligning tables with paragraph styles

Afterwards, there are two ways to access the paragraph to format it: Put the cursor in the LAST character of the LAST cell in the table and press the right arrow key ONCE. The cursor is then in the container paragraph just outside the table. Click to the right of the table in the editor. This is on...

Re: Significant PDF size discrepancy between machines

Hi Ron,

Are both machines using the same version of the same PDF reference driver?

Are both drivers set to the same print quality (DPI) and paper size? Is one on A4 and the other on US Letter?

Are any images set to 100% page size both ways?

Do both PDFs have the same number of pages?

Martin.

Re: Significant PDF size discrepancy between machines

There are a lot of images (189 png files/23mb) and Image Quality is set to JPEG 100% (good quality) on both machines. Hi Ron, Converting a screenshot PNG (line graphics) to JPG and back to PNG can vastly increase the PNG file size. Try opening the PDFs in a PDF editor and extracting the images. Com...

Ron Horn wrote: Tue Mar 01, 2022 11:31 pm Any ideas?
Hi Ron,

PDF file size issues nearly always come down to fonts, and which ones your project uses in the rogue project.

Check which fonts are installed on each machine, and any differences between the machines.

Re: Sizing of WebHelp YouTube Videos

Is there any way to have a media link set to size as 100% of the page size but only up to a maximum size, like the % of page width, maximum is physical size option for screenshots? Hi Sheri, You can do that if you enter the YouTube code manually into the topic using the Insert HTML Code Object func...

Microsoft moves the Windows goalposts in shifting sands

Just practising my headline-writing skills. :)

An interesting post from Embarcadero, suggesting that we are back in favour at Microsoft:

For how long remains to be seen.

Re: PDF font and img size

Hi Alex, You can't have clickable images in a PDF, the PDF format is designed to be printed. Clicking things is for the Webhelp format. You need to use the Conditional Text functions in H&M, so that in Webhelp you have the images as topic links, and in the PDF they are plain images. cheers, Mart...

Re: PDF font and img size

I was using screen as reference device, and my screen has 1920 x 1080, more than the 150 ppi needed to correctly render the PDF. Hi Alex, If your screen is 1920x1080 it is very likely set to 120 DPI (125%). Not 150 DPI (dots per inch). If you use a PDF virtual printer as the reference device, you w...

Re: What are the best options for embedding videos in WebHelp?

YouTube plasters links to other YouTube videos, and we can't find a way to prevent that. Hi Dave, You can prevent that by adding ?rel=0 to the embedded URL (no related content). You can also prevent Youtube from setting cookies on the user's computer if you use the -nocookie version of the URL: htt...

Hi Alex,

If you want to use a PDF virtual printer, you need to Print your project, not Publish it.

Select the virtual printer as the printer to be used.

Alex Luna wrote: Tue Feb 02, 2021 4:18 pm So, how can I change the resolution used to render PDF?
Hi Alex,

In the Program Options, change the PDF reference device.

Then set the required DPI for the chosen device in its Properties settings.
