Tables can only split at row boundaries in PDF. This means that you need to make your rows small enough to allow breaking at reasonable intervals. In Toggles this also means that you should not insert a second table inside the main toggle table, because the main outer toggle table would then be a si...

Hi Greg,

This kind of text flow is not supported in PDF, it is a restriction of the PDF format, not of Help & Manual. If you need to export the same text to both electronic help and PDF you need to use tables for layout instead of the text flow options.

Hi Anja, This is caused by the fact that the image captions are attached to the images with <div> tags and two <div> layers will automatically be below one another unless you use float attributes, which you can't add here. The only way to force images with captions to be side by side is to use a tab...

Re: Calling Popups

Hi Graham, If this is a dead issue since Vista, how do you call to popups in HTML help files? You need to program your application calls to use the HTML Help API. This is documented in detail in the help for HTML Help Workshop, which is installed on your computer together with the HTML Help compiler...

Hi Sebastian, Please have a look at the help before posting questions to the forum. This is all explained in detail in the chapter: Basic Working Procedures > Text Formatting and Styles > Numbered and bulleted lists Basically, numbered lists are not controlled directly by styles but by their own int...

In TNT you cannot edit objects again once you have merged them with the background, they then become part of the bitmap image. All editing of objects must be done directly after insertion, before you merge them with the background. Clicking on any other part of the image or adding a new object will ...

Re: Upgrading to H&M4.3

One last question while I wait. If I work on this project via the most up to date version (remotely on my own machine running 4.3) and then bring the file in to work on it here (on their machine with version 4.2) will that cause conflicts/issues? No, that's not a problem. There are no changes in th...

I like Captivate but I'm still using 1.01 so I can't comment on the capabilities of 2.0. Several users on the forum have praised Camtasia very highly as well, so it might be a good idea to try that as well before making a final decision.

I just tested it several times with both normal text and user-defined variables and it works every time. Note that the title tags in the Topic Pages and TOC templates are irrelevant here. Also, the <%TITLE%> variable is not used in the title tag in the Topic Pages template -- there <%TOPIC_TITLE%> i...

Hi "Perkley", Wow, I didn't think it was that difficult. I'm quite aware how to write HTML, what is not clear in your posts is what you are doing in Help & Manual and what you want to achieve. You appear to be referring to the text displayed in the title bar of the browser. What was mi...

"perkley", Sorry, but the way you are using the terminology makes it impossible to know what you are talking about. Please describe exactly what it is you want to change and where you want the change to be visible in your output. I have no idea at all what you might mean when you say "...

Hi Madymo, All the See Also... entries in the H&M help are made manually so they work in all output formats. I am not a big fan of Microsoft's A-Links technology for creating See Also.. links -- in theory they sound great but once you really start using them in practice you will find that handli...

At the moment H&M's primary save format is a single binary file with the .HMX format. Your entire project data and all its settings are saved in this file (except graphics files, which are stored separately). Because of this it is not possible for more than one user to edit this file at the same...

Hi Kinook, You're right -- the changes in 1138 weren't documented. There are basically two updates: A small fix for a problem some users experienced in XML export and the inclusion of the .mnl print manual template file for PDFs with the project file for Help & Manual's own help in the Samples f...
