Yea, I'm still getting that one too. I'm going to try to re-install everything and see if that works. Please contact EC Software support at support AT ec-software.com (replace the AT with @) for further information. Please include your Help & Manual serial number and the name under which the pr...

This is probably being caused by graphics. Two factors can increase the size of graphics in PDFs: Using scaled graphics and using graphics with a large number of colors. When you scale graphics in Help & Manual the full original graphic file is exported to PDF together with a scaling command tha...

Hi Nailim, What is happening here is that Excel is using different encoding for the normal text and the umlaut characters. In Help & Manual you can see this by moving through the text with the cursor and watching the status bar at the bottom of the H&M window as you do so: you will see the e...

Topic: XML export?

Hi Tomas,

Neither are possible, unfortunately. The XML export is really a save function rather than a compile function and it always includes your entire project. And there is no way to save a "modified" version of your project based on conditional output settings. :?

Hi Mat, This is possible but you will have to program it yourself with JavaScript, extracting the information you need from the page you are leaving. The value you want is the html page name of the topic with the .htm extension stripped -- the html pagenames are generated from the topic IDs by downc...

Topic: Creating a Preface

Hi Michelle, This is not really possible because you can't exclude any topics included in your PDF from the table of contents. And since the preface is almost certainly a top-level topic the only way to switch off the numbering would be to turn it off for all top-level topics, which is not the resul...

Hi Gary,

This is not possible with a direct reference to the section number. However, if you activate the Insert Page Referrers option (Project Properties > PDF > PDF Layout) H&M will insert a page icon with the page number on which the target topic begins after all hyperlinks.

Re: Builds which include this topic

I am having a bit of trouble with this. I need the parent topic to be included in all builds but the child topic to only be included in browser-based help. Is that possible? Or are child topics always included in the same builds as their parents? You can't exclude all the child topics of a chapter ...

Re: XML Export of several topics

When the project is quite large, how would one round-trip say 60 topics for XML editing. As opposed to the entire project. One at a time is quite time consuming. Just export the entire project with the option activated that saves each topic in a separate XML file. Then edit the topics you need to e...

Hi Ivka, It turned out that only the anchors in the headers were not included into the PDF index. This is correct, as far as I can see anchor keywords are ignored if you place the anchors in the header. But there is really no reason to place an anchor in the header: If you just want the index keywor...
