Hi Zdanek, For easteuropean there is not necessary to use UTF-8., I think. That is what the developers thought too, originally. However, it turns out that there are a lot of characters in almost all Eastern European languages for which Unicode and UTF-8 are needed. Even if it seems to work in the ol...

This is not a bug. As of version 4.2 you must activate UTF-8 for Eastern European character sets because they require Unicode for special characters.

Robert, It seems that HTML Help and Browser-based Help do not require the Help file to be specified, linking by unique Topic ID only. PDF output however does require the Help file to be specified. When I did this, the link worked fine. You must ALWAYS specify the target help file when you are perfor...

Robert, When you compile (to HTML Help) you get an error message "Cross linking and multiple includes of project xxx is not allowed. Sorry, that's right. That's the disadvantage of this method: You can only include the project once, not multiple times. However, I just realized that there is a t...

Trevor,
Trevor Holder wrote:But since I have changed the template to your non scrolling one it no longer works that way.
That's quite possible -- the non-scrolling headers use CSS to position the blocks of text and so the "top" of the text is no longer available through that channel.

Release Candidate 2 available

Release candidate 2 (RC2) of Help & Manual 4.2 (Build 1033) has just been made available on the EC Software website. It corrects the issues that users have reported and adds lots of fine-tuning and minor improvements. The information and download page remains the same: http://www.ec-software.com...

Harvey,

Actually, it does, but only when you do a manual spellcheck. The realtime spellchecker doesn't flag repeated words. This is a known issue and is on the wish list for the spellcheck module supplier.

Robert, This should work. I just tested it with RC1, the current beta of 4.2 and version 4.15 and it was fine in all of them. Since your intra-module links are working it sounds like your linking setup for PDF is correct. I think we need to take a look at a project in which it doesn't work. Please p...

Trevor,

Just create a link to the topic you are in without specifying any anchor. The default anchor setting is (Top), which uses a hidden anchor in all topics that automatically takes you to the top.

Hi Hal, Is there a reason why that snippet isn't part of the standard H&M 4 code? Yes, because changing it would suddenly change people's existing projects when they recompile and many people don't like surprises like that. Changes like this are only introduced to the default templates for major...

Hi Rguss, Just go to Project Properties > eBooks > Functionality & Security and enter your own text in the "Text for About Box:" editing box. You can also change all the user interface texts if you want: Go to the \Templates subdirectory in the H&M program directory, make a copy of...

Jonathan, Hear, hear! A copy hotspot would work, too, for me. Copying cutting and pasting hotspots is already activated in 4.2 RC1. Just right click on the hotspot and use the context menu or use Ctrl+C , Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V . This doesn't cover the positioning and shape requests, but it is there... :?

Hal, Glad you got it working! One other thing: Because of the way the standard templates are designed in H&M the TOC entries are all underlined in Firefox and other "real" browsers (in Internet Explorer they are not). You can fix this by adding some style definitions to the template fo...

Hal, A word of warning on right indents: Be careful about using them in HTML formats -- you'll see why if you try to make the browser or HTML Help viewer window narrower. The indent is always relative to the window edge and it will squish the text down when the window is made narrower. The paragraph...
