you just need to know how the icons in Browser Help work. Basically, they emulate the HTML Help viewer as closely as possible Hi Tim, I know that's the intention, but is it actually a sound idea? If users find themselves in their web browser, they are more likely to expect what they see to work lik...

Anyone have any thoughts? Hi Albert, Sorry, I can't help much with interfacing CHM help. Over to Alexander to explain the code used in H&M modal dialogs. My thoughts are that CHM help is now so hedged about with security restrictions that it's not worth the bother. And we can't go back to WinHe...

I still have the problem of the help file not being usable (computer "gongs" when the user clicks on it) when certain (modal) options dialogs are displayed Hi Albert, If a dialog is showing modally the computer will "gong" if you click anywhere in the same application other than...

Re: Display error when using windings font after XLS import

p.s. Alex, The problem is that the XML bug is applying your List_Item style (which specifies Arial font) to the tickmark character code, instead of applying the Wingdings font. For myself, I never make lists using styles -- it's far too much bother setting up indents and spacings. Ditto the built-in...

Hi Alex,

There is no need to export an XML file to see this bug. It is sufficient to swap to the XML tab, make a small edit to the text, and swap back to the topic.

Martin.

XML editing - error notification and undo

After editing the XML code and swapping back to the topic editor, it would be helpful to have a status message about the changes. In the case of errors, XML edits may have been discarded and/or modified, but the user has no indication that this has occurred. Also, after swapping to XML, making chang...

When you switch to the XML editor pane the topic you are editing gets converted to XML on the fly, and when you switch back to the normal editor it gets converted back. This is done with syntax and well-formedness checking, so if you make any errors (even one) in your XML syntax all your edits are ...

Re: Global XML Search&Replace - inside H&M

To avoid such heart-pounding actions it would be nice to have inside H&M the possibility for global XML Search & Replace. Hi Alexander, I agree that would be a useful option. However, I'm not convinced it would eliminate the problems you found. The XML tab is labelled "Source Code"...

Re: too many image files...

I inherited a help document that has over 500 image files in the directory... I would like to remove some of time just to clean it up (some images date back a long time ago). Is there any way of knowing if an image file is used? Hi Ed, 1. Make a backup copy of your images folder, in case of mistake...

Re: Embedded images

How can you locate an Embedded image in the XML code? Hi, Swap to the XML Source Code tab, use Edit > Find & Replace Text to search for the string: <embedded-image (without the closing >) Note that you must click on the XML pane to focus it before Find & Replace works on that pane. Martin.

First of all, remember that your backups should be on a different medium, i.e. NOT on the same hard disk as your project (if the hard disk crashes you will probably lose both the project and the backup). For real peace of mind your backups should also be stored OFF-site. Your computers may be stole...

Re: Writing documentation for Class/Function

I have to write a documentation for a programming language (Delphi). This means, I have to write many functions and classes, how can I do this best with H & M? Hi Snoopy, I think you have misunderstood the purpose of H&M. It is intended to be used in creating the end-user Help documentation...
