Identify help topic IDs

Unread post by MichaelM05301 »

Hello,

Does anyone know of a utility that will display the topic ID when the user presses F1?

The reason I ask it to identify the topic ID that is being used when an application tries to launch help and the user gets the "Failed to launch help." message. Is there a way to determine the topic ID without having the program source code?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

If you're referencing the help topic via its ID and not via context numbers the ID should be included in the error message saying what couldn't be found. The topic file name inside the CHM is really just the ID + the ".htm" extension.
