RSS to email, anyone?

Unread post by Martin Wynne »

Regular users of this forum will know how useful the RSS feed is as a means of monitoring forum activity. But RSS does require an always-on (or at least frequently-on) connection to be sure of not missing any items between updates.

For those without an RSS reader, or who would prefer email, I have been trying a free service from rssfwd.com which is simple in essence. The service will monitor an RSS feed for you and deliver its content to you as individual emails. This means that you don't miss anything because it will be in saved your usual mailbox. And you can use your familiar email client to sort and store the forum content.

It works quite well. The only downside is that your subscribed feeds are delivered in batches at intervals, which means that topic threads can sometimes be out of order. There is a link back to the originating web page for an easy reply mechanism.

There are other similar services. See: http://www.r-mail.org/ , http://www.rssfwd.com/ and others.

Martin.
