One topic (only) gives vanishing sidebar and fails links

Unread postby Kevin Killion » Sat Aug 29, 2015 6:08 pm

I have H&M Pro 6.5.0 Build 2963. (Yes, I'm talking to my client about buying the v7 upgrade.)

I'm having a serious problem with just one topic in my project. It is one of many topics. Everything looks fine in H&M, and it publishes just fine.

The problem is when the help files are uploaded to a website and used from there. With all other topics, you can click the topic in the sidebar and go to the correct topic page. But with this one topic:
1) Clicking in the sidebar does NOT dispatch to the topic page. The page showing is not changed from what was there before.
2) All contents in the sidebar vanish, leaving just white space. Thus, it is thereafter impossible to use the sidebar to jump to topics. You need to reload the webpage to restore the sidebar. (But the problem returns if again try to click the "bad" topic.)

Even weirder: I tried creating a new topic, copying content from that "bad" topic page, and adjusting various links. Then I deleted the old "bad" topic and Published. Even after this, the NEW topic page has the same behavior.

If you wish to see this in action, here it is: http://www.shsmedia.com/tview/help/t/index.html
In the sidebar click on "Plansheets: Crafting Your Media Plan", and when the subtopics are shown click on "Online/Web Advertising".

Help!

Thank you,
Kevin Killion

Hi Kevin,

It's all working fine here, in both Firefox and IE. :?

Try doing CTRL+F5 in you browser.

Martin.

Many thanks for looking into this, Martin! Your info made me try other systems and browsers.

The mystery deepens, and it looks like it only occurs with Firefox:

System Works successfully?

PC, Windows 7, Internet Explorer 11: YES
PC, Windows 7, Chrome 44.0: YES
PC, Windows 7, Firefox 40.0.3: *NO*
Mac Mini, OS 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.10: YES
Mac Mini, OS 10.6.8, Firefox 40.0: *NO*
Mac Mini, OS 10.6.8, Firefox 40.0.3: YES (didn't work on FF 40.0, did work after upgrade!)
MacBook Air, OS 10.10.5, Safari 8.0.8: YES
MacBook Air, OS 10.10.5, Firefox 40.0: YES
MacBook Air, OS 10.10.5, Firefox 40.0.3: YES
MacBook Air, OS 10.10.5, Chrome 44.0: YES
MacBook Air, Windows 7 under Parallels, Internet Explorer 11: YES

So, the problem appears to be related to displaying on Firefox specifically. And while doing the upgrade from FF 4.0 to 40.0.3 on the MacMini cleared up the problem, FF 4.0.3 still fails to properly display the page on the PC.

Hmmmm! Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I can't reproduce your error either, also not in Firefox. However, your skin is badly out of date. You are using a skin from Premium Pack 2.20. The current version is 2.70.
