Unread post by Alex Mirsky »

Hello,
Does anybody know how to make both a glossary and an index in H&M 7?
Thanks

Hi Alex,

There is no automatic function for glossaries but you can create one yourself quite easily. How you format a glossary depends largely on how many terms you want to include in it. If you just have a few terms you can include them all in a single topic with a heading style for the term itself and a body text style below it for the definition. If you have more terms you may want to create an entire glossary chapter, with separate topics for different groups of letters in the alphabet.

You can put all the glossary entries in a table, which you can then sort as necessary with the sorting options in the Table tab. Just click in the table column you want to sort on, then select sort.

If the definitions contain more text it's probably a good idea to use expanding text toggles for the definitions, then the list will take up less space. See this chapter in the help for details:

http://helpandmanual.com/help/index.html?hm_toggles.htm

In addition to this you can also create links at the top of the page to jump to the places on the page where the different groups of definitions begin. To do this insert an anchor at the point on the page you want to jump to and then create links to the anchors at the top of the page (see this chapter in the help for instructions).

http://helpandmanual.com/help/index.htm ... nchors.htm

To create a link to an anchor on the same page you first create a link to the CURRENT topic. This links to the top of the page. Then double-click on the link and select the anchor you want to jump to from the anchor list drop-down next to the link target in the anchor dialog.
