Co-working in H&M6 Pro and H&M7 Server
Hi!
We are working in Help & Manual Version 6.5.2 Build 3002. And we are trying to organzie automated batch builds of our projects. So we have recently bought 2 server licenses, but it's Help & Manual 7 Server.
I was wondering if we can work like this: do all our editing with Help & Manual 6, but publish in Help & Manual 7. Will this cause us any trouble?
Thanks in advance!
Irina

Hi Irina,
Also you should NEVER do multi-user editing in a mixed session with Help & Manual 6 and 7 at the same time. That would cause serious errors. Similarly, you should NEVER try to manage projects in Subversion or Team Foundation Server while working with both versions at the same time.
If you only publish with Version 7 that is OK, but you should not do any editing with it and then return to version 6. It would really be a complete waste of effort and money though --it would be much better to both edit and publish in version 7.I was wondering if we can work like this: do all our editing with Help & Manual 6, but publish in Help & Manual 7. Thank you for your advice, Tim! We will try to purchase H&M7 Professional for all our users, but for now will avoid editing with it.

Re: Co-working in H&M6 Pro and H&M7 Server
Hi, Tim! We are currently trying to convince our managers to buy Help & Manual 7 for our authors, and there are couple new questions. If we order update from Help+Manual 6 Professional online on your site (http://www.helpandmanual.com/order.html ... on=upgrade) will our existing licences fit? Will we only have to start the update after getting it, and begin working after it is installed? Or are there any additional steps of registering or renewing licence, or anything else?
And one more question about Premium Pack. We have 2 licences of Premium Pack 2.51. Do we need to update it to newer version as well? And how do we do this? Cause from the information on the update page it seems that it's a new version of Premium Pack is offered (e.g, Tip: Add a Help+Manual Premium Pack to each upgrade license and save 35% on the Premium Pack!).
Thanks,
Irina.

One more question. Can we update less licences than we have? For example, we have 5 licences, but we are ready to buy update for 2 licences only. Can we do this and at the same time keep 3 other licences for Help & Manual 6?

Hi Irina,
Yes, that isn't a problem. But again, we strongly advise you not to work on shared projects with some authors using an older version of the program. That can create serious problems. Can we update less licences than we have? For example, we have 5 licences, but we are ready to buy update for 2 licences only. Hi Irina,
Sorry, I missed the additional post because you had posted multiple times...

When you upgrade you will get new license keys for Help & Manual 7. You just install Help & Manual 7 and register it with the new keys. This will be installed in a new folder in the EC Software program directory -- version 6 will be left in place and will be fully functional.
You don't need a new Premium Pack license yet. You can upgrade to the current version 2.72 free of charge with your existing download credentials and it will work with version 7. However, if you do upgrade now you will get the upgrade to version 3.0 when it comes out very soon. This upcoming version includes fully responsive skins that work for desktop, tablet and phone browsers, the ability to embed your help in other web pages with a snippet of code (like embedding a YouTube video) and the ability to have formatted popups from the help in your own web pages without displaying the full help.

Thank you for clarification about the licences and for a very interesting information about Premium Pack 3.0!
