Comment indicator in TOC?

Unread post by Tamara Pickrell »

Didn't there used to be a "pin" indicator in the TOC for topics that had comments? Is that a setting somewhere? Anyway, how do I see which topics have comments that I need to attend to?

Hi Tamara,
Didn't there used to be a "pin" indicator in the TOC for topics that had comments?
Yes and no -- the pin actually indicates a bookmark, not a comment. However, you can link the two so that a bookmark is created automatically whenever you create a comment.

Go to View > Program Options > Editor and check the option Automatically manage bookmarks for every comment. A new bookmark will then be inserted automatically for every comment you create, using the first few words of the comment as the bookmark identifier. See here for more information:

Thanks, Tim. I must have had that option set in previous versions without realizing it.

I see that I need to re-save my pre-existing comments in order to get the TOC indicator. Is there any way to search the whole project (or something like previous/next for comments?), so I can be sure I find them all?

Hi Tamara,

A few years ago I posted a simple Windows utility program to find and list all comments in a H&M project. It was made for HM5 originally but still works fine in HM7 (provided you are not using the new TidyXML option). See:

https://helpman.it-authoring.com/viewto ... 479#p41479

It's not signed, so you will need to click through the usual security warnings.

regards,

Martin.

Can you change the pin icon?

Also, when I publish to PDF, the icon sits over the text.

Any ideas or best practices to avoid this?

Also, is it possible to publish comments from the Task Manager? I can't see a way. :?

The pin icon can't currently be changed. The output to PDF is generally only for proofreading and commenting, not for distribution, so we feel that the slight overlap is acceptable there. I'm passing this on to our development team, however. 8)

I probably shouldn't revive such an old post, but I also found the pins overlapping the text to be an issue, so it would be great if these could be made smaller or replaced by a less obstructive graphics - I have a license for H&M 7, is this something that's changed in H&M 8?

Hi Martin,

Yes, the note pins have now changed and are smaller. Here's an example:
