Page breaks and conditional tags

Unread post by Ga Bowen »

I can't seem to make a page break work if I place it before a conditional text tag.

The problem is similar to this one raised a couple of years back:

Is there a solution or workaround?

Also putting tags around tables is generating a large space.

Hi Ga,

This is currently a limitation of page breaks in combination with conditional tags. If there is a space before the tag it will work, but then you get a space at the beginning of the paragraph. The best solution is to set the page break in an empty paragraph directly before the conditional tag, and then set the font size of that paragraph to 1pt with no space before or after.
Also putting tags around tables is generating a large space.
This is unavoidable because the tags must be outside the table, and since a table is always a paragraph of its own the tags must be in the paragraphs before and after the table.

You can work around this problem by putting the IF tag at the end of the previous paragraph and the END tag at the beginning of the next paragraph, instead of in paragraphs of their own. This won't work if you are putting conditions on multiple tables directly after each other. Then use this strategy:
  • Set the tags in empty paragraphs with their font size set to 1pt and no space before or after.
  • Check the before and after space of the paragraph containing the table. A table is contained in a paragraph that has all normal paragraph attributes, including indents and before and after space. You can format it by putting the insertion point directly after the table, between the table and the paragraph mark (turn on the display of paragraph marks to see this). If you have trouble clicking there you just need to put the insertion point at the end of the last paragraph in the last table cell and press the right arrow key once.
