PDF template "master"?

Unread post by Christian Kessner »

Hello,

we are creating several technical documents (in different projects) that we brand for different customers.
The documents should have the same general look, but differ e.g. in the cover picture.
Is there any way to avoid having several pdf templates that we would need to modify if any changes are asked for?
Something like a "master" template which is used for all documents, and then specific parts like the cover for each one?

Hi Christian,

You can achieve this by inserting these components with the Text Snippet feature in the Insert menu in Manual Designer. Use the option for entering a topic ID, not an external file, for the snippet. Then you can create hidden topics in all your projects with exactly this ID (create the topic directly in the Topic Files section, without a TOC entry, and set its include options to PDF only). Then each project can deliver its own versions of these components to the template when publishing.
