Is it possible to merge 2 versions of an H&M Project Together?

Unread post by Dale Aceron »

Is it possible to merge 2 different versions of the same H&M Project Together?

Scenario: Parts of version A gets updated, while version B is also being updated.

How can I merge version A changes into version B without having to copy and paste all the changed topics?

Hi Dale,

You can't do this from within Help+Manual. Theoretically you could use a diffing and merging program like Beyond Compare or Winmerge to compare and merge the XML topic files, but that would be much more work than copying and pasting.

In the long run you want to handle this differently: If there are topics that are identical in both versions they should be the same topics instead of having separate copies of them. Create a third uncompressed project in which you store all the topic files for such topics, and only edit them there. You then insert these topics in your Projects A and B as snippets from files, selecting them from the Topics folder of your third project.

IMPORTANT: The topics into which you insert the snippets should not have the same IDs as the snippet topic files. That would cause conflicts. :)
