404 not shown in V3

Unread post by Martin Wynne »

Hi Tim,

If the old format* URL is used to open a topic in V3 Webhelp, and the topic ID doesn't exist, e.g. a link to:

/index.html?no_such_topic.htm

the Webhelp displays the base index.html page instead of a "404 Not Found" message, but the browser address bar changes to /no_such_topic.html

This is confusing to the user if the browser address bar doesn't reflect the page content. And it's not very helpful to the developer when testing for dead links.

Only when the user tries refreshing the page does he then get the "404 Not Found" message. It would be better if the 404 message was displayed first time.

*it's necessary to use the old format when creating the links in EWriter, see my other topic.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for noticing this -- I'll cover it in the upcoming 3.2 update. :)
