V3 WebHelp: Temporary deactivate phone and tablet version

Unread post by markusflow »

Hi all,

is there an easy way (option, comment out a few code lines) to temprary deactivate the responsive phone and tablet version and to force loading the desktop version?

Background: We still need some time to finalize the Phone and Tablet version but want to go live with the desktop version.

Thanks, Markus

Hi Markus,

That's not really possible because even if you prevented the loading of the CSS files for phone and tablet there are many locations in the scripts where decisions are made on the basis of which device type is currently active. All the dimension management, for example, and also different TOC and toggle management and much more besides... :?

By the way: Note that I have a maintenance update to 3.48 almost ready to go. I'm just waiting until the beginning of next week to see if anything else shows up. However, if you're already working on a custom version on the basis of 3.48 that's OK because the only changes are in JS files which you can then just replace in your version, along with deleting one configuration variable.

Here's the current change log for 3.49, FYI:
  • Highlighting errors when selecting an already highlighted search results topic topic with a different search. Previous highlights were not deleted.
  • GA Tracking: Multiple tracks on first topic sometimes
  • GA Tracking: Incompetent tracking blockers like Ghostery no longer break WebHelp
  • Image toggles: Click outside image now closes image toggles in desktop mode
  • Breadcrumbs were not shown for topic selected in Search results until you switched back to the TOC (side-effect of a previous search change)
  • Anchor links on internal topic links failed under some circumstances (side effect of search change)
  • TOC: Error in Top button if the last item in the previous sibling chapter was a sub-chapter. The highlight would then jump to the last sub-chapter instead of the correct parent chapter.
  • Toolbox: Opening a new project/skin only closes the current one if you don’t cancel. It used to close as soon as you opened the Open dialog.
  • Toolbox: Save button now turns green when it is active for better visibility.

Looking forward to it. I had noticed the issue but could not systematically reproduce it.
