Links to and from Field-level WebHelp Popups and Field-level WebHelp Topics

Unread post by Marc »

Embedded Help, Field-level WebHelp Popups and Field-level WebHelp Topics are a really cool feature.

(1) Is it possible to also link to anchors in Field-level WebHelp Popups and Field-level WebHelp Topics? The documentation seems to contain only examples that link to the beginning of a page. Is this a known limitation, or is there any way to junp to a specific location within a popup topic as well?

(2) Would it be possible to have both Embedded Help and either WebHelp Popups or Field-level WebHelp Topics on the same page? If so, would it be possible to link to a topic shown in the embedded help pane from a WebHelp Popup or Field-level WebHelp that is on the same page?

Hi Marc,

Links to field-level topics don't currently have the ability to scroll to anchors. This may be added in a future update, thanks for the suggestion. This will most likely only be possible for embedded topics, not for embedded popups. (If your embedded popups are long enough to need scrolling they should be topics, not popups.)
Would it be possible to have both Embedded Help and either WebHelp Popups or Field-level WebHelp Topics on the same page?
That isn't a problem at all. You can include both without them interfering with each other.
If so, would it be possible to link to a topic shown in the embedded help pane from a WebHelp Popup or Field-level WebHelp that is on the same page?
No, because the field-level topics and popups are not on the same page. They are in an iFrame, which is essentially a different browser tab shown in a box. So they are not integrated in the scripts on your main page that make it possible for links on your main page to communicate with the embedded help, and also cannot access them.

However, links to other topics in the help in embedded topics and popups will work normally, but they will open the target topic in the full WebHelp UI in a new tab. Opening in the embedded help on the same page is theoretically possible, but it would be a whole other and much more complex ball game and it is not currently included in the system. :?
