centralized program options, adding bookmarks for comments retrospectively

Unread post by Thomas Grehl »

Hi,

we are continuously working on a large H&M project with about 30 project files linked at compile time and 4 different custom builds. The number of active authors is about 15, but we manage to do this with 3 floating licenses. So far, so good, but we have recently identified an issue that makes collaboration more difficult:

Most users have the option "Automatically manage topic bookmarks for every comment" disabled (which is the default). This means that about 300 comments have been added in the past distributed over thousands of topics which are not marked with a "Pin" in the TOC, and which are therefore difficult to find. As users are lazy and not always follow instructions, and as authors are only working for some time and then pause for months in which they might get a new PC and reset there options, it would be great to enforce such options for all users at once, either by distributiong a file and import it to set all program options, or by managing it through the license server.

So this contains two questions:
1. Any way to "enforce" certain settings on the users?
2. Any way to automatically find the comments and add a bookmark for them (except by writing a script to parse all topics and modify the *.hmxp)?

thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
1. Any way to "enforce" certain settings on the users?
Unfortunately not. There is not currently anything like a Windows group policy in Help+Manual.
2. Any way to automatically find the comments and add a bookmark for them (except by writing a script to parse all topics and modify the *.hmxp)?
That would be exactly the way to do it...
