Page Icons in PDF Cross References

Unread post by Marc »

Under Configuration > Publishing Option > Adobe PDF > PDF Layout you can choose from various icons for the page numbers in cross refences in PDF output. Is there any possibility to either use coston icons here or to improve the formatting of the numerals that are printed within these icons? (The problem is that all of the icons seem to have one weakness or the other: The rectanges are not aligned properly with the text and look like superscript. With the "Small Page Icon", the alignment is OK, but numerals greater than 99 become way too smal. With the "Large Page Icon", the alignment is also OK but the last digit of the last numeral is almost covered by the folded page symbol, which makes some numers very hard to read. Also it looks like the numbers are not centered properly within this icon.)

Hi Marc,

We'll have the developers look at the centering issues, but custom icons are not possible here. The reason is that the referrers must have a precise, known and unchanging width. If they don't, and even worse if their width changes with the page numbers, then that will change the pagination and the page references will no longer be correct. The only way to solve that would be to re-export the PDF multiple times, which would make the export time much, much longer... :?

Another solution would be to put sufficient leading zeroes on the page number. Its width would then be known at compile time -- most fonts are constant-width for the numeric characters. I don't see any great difficulty with a link to page 0042, for example.

I suggested this change years ago. Worth posting it again?

cheers,

Martin.
