Skin for eWriter

Unread post by Olivier Beltrami »

Hi,

I am looking into replacing my CHM files with an eWriter EXE.
I have 2 PP skins, tweaked to my liking, one for CHM and one for WebHelp.
Which one should I (can I) use ? Or do I need to tweak one specific to the eWriter format ?
Very best regards,

Olivier

None of the above. The PP includes dedicated eWriter skins and you absolutely need to use those. Either the V2 skins that support both WebHelp and eWriter or the dedicated V3 eWriter skins.

Hi Tim,

Thank you very much for your response.

I have used a V3 eWriter skin and managed to tweak it to close to what I have with my CHM file.
But I still have a few issues (see screenshot at the bottom for reference):
  • How can I change the icon at the top-left of the title bar ? Currently it shows the default orange book icon.
  • The currently selected topic title is shown on the title bar; can this be changed ? To some static text, for example.
  • Can I change the size available to the TOC images ? Currently it seems that the SVGs are being squished vertically and horizontally. This happens with the default TOC SVGs or if I create new ones using Axialis (as suggested).
  • Finally, is there a way to "re-compile" the eWriter project manually, after I have done some pre-processing to the files ? In particular, I have found that the only way for me to get the information I need in the footers (help context ID, time last modified, and link to latest online version) is to generate the CHM project in H&M, then post-process the temp files, inserting the required information, and then manually recompiling these modified temp files using the hhc.exe compiler. Is then an equivalent to hhc.exe for eWriters ?
Very best regards,

Olivier

Hello again,

I found the file "eWriter.exe""which allows me to address Point 4, above.
And, when testing it, I found the solution to Points 1 and 2, as well.

So the only issue left seems to be Point 3 above.

Very best regards,

Olivier

Olivier,

You can control the size of the TOC icons with the TOC CSS file that you can find in the baggage of the skin: hmwebhelp_toc_desktop.css. The section for the icons starts with the header /* TOC LIST CSS */. Use the background-position and background-size attributes to adjust. There are settings for all supported ToC levels.
