Want HTML support on the forum?

Unread post by Tim Green »

Now that the forum has been running smoothly for a couple of months it's pretty clear we have a well-behaved, high-class membership. I think it would thus be safe to enable HTML support for postings if there is demand for it.

When activated, the forum software's HTML support lets you use a limited set of HTML tags. The standard set is:

Code: Select all

b,i,u,pre,img

So two questions:
  • 1:
Would you like HTML support or is the existing BBCode support enough?
    2:
Which tags would you like in addition to the standard set?
Hint: Don't even think about asking for <script> or <?php>

It's fine for me as it is now. Too much formatting diverts from content and focuses on container.

It's fine for me, too. The tags above are possible with BBCode as well, including the image tag.

Let me cast another vote for leaving things as-is. Olivier is absolutely right; our primary focus is the content of our questions, answers, observations, etc.

For that matter, I wouldn't mind a bit if we had *fewer* cute features. For example, if we dropped the animated emoticons and had to use regular old-fashioned punctuation-mark constructions, I wouldn't lose any sleep. Ditto for the avatars; I chose one only because I felt obligated to play along. (Of course, Wally *is* my hero -- make that anti-hero.)

The forum is oK as it is. The animated emoticons are also oK. It even would be better to have some more :)
