Old IE6 Apps: A Solution?

Unread post by Tim Green »

The main reason many companies are still forced to keep IE6 installed is because they have web apps and other software that still depends on it and won't work with anything else. Browsium has just released an updated product called "Browsium Ion" that may be a solution to this problem. It allows you to update to IE8 on Windows XP and also use Windows 7 with IE9 but still get the full IE6 compatibility you need for old apps. Unlike Browsium's earlier product, which required installing components from IE6 (which Microsoft did not like...), Browsium Ion gets by without any IE6 components but still claims full IE6 compatibility for legacy apps and web pages.

We haven't tried this ourselves, but I thought it might be interesting for some users. The downside is that Browsium Ion appears to be available only on a subscription basis, so it is really only attractive for corporate installations. But then, those are really the environments where the IE6 problem is most prevalent.
