EC Software and Forum Privacy Policy

Unread post by Tim Green »

In accordance with the new European GDPR privacy legislation, here is the EC Software and HM Forum privacy policy. We're including the full text for your information, although only the forum portions (which are slightly more detailed in this version) are really relevant here. Basically, all we need to do to comply with the new regulations is describe what we have already been doing since we started. We have never collected any personal information on the forum, never performed tracking and never passed any information on to any other parties. For example, we have always refused to provide addresses of customers as references to other customers on request. We used to have Google Analytics installed for statistics on forum access but didn't ever do much with it. Now we have removed that also, because the potential privacy issues of using it far outweighed the tiny benefits of having it.

1. INTRODUCTION
EC Software is committed to protecting your privacy. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. Our website is structured so that you can visit and download trial software without identifying yourself or revealing any personal information.

If you choose to provide us personally identifiable information (any information by which you can be identified), you can be assured that it will only be used to support your customer relationship with EC Software.

2. HOW WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

2.1 Forum Registration
EC Software encourages users who want to participate in the EC Software support forums to register. In order to register, you must provide us with a username, password and a valid email address. This allows us to protect our community from abusive postings and provides a verifiable point of contact should legal questions arise. At any time, you have the ability to keep your email address hidden from other users by selecting that option within your user profile.

When you register, you have the option of providing some additional information such as occupation, interests, and homepage URL. This optional information is made available to other forum users to foster a sense of community. If you have any concerns about providing this information, simply leave the fields blank and your registration will still be processed.

2.1.2 Your Forum Postings
So long as you remain registered your postings on the Help+Manual forum are displayed with your forum user name as the author. The content of your postings are never used by us for any purpose, internal or external. We do not sell, trade or rent anything you post to others or use any information you post for any tracking of any kind. If you decide to leave the forum your user name can be removed from your postings on request. Then "Guest" will be displayed as the author. If you wish, all your postings can also be deleted entirely along with your forum account.

2.1.3 Cookies on the Forum
The phpBB user forum software uses cookies only for forum administration purposes. For example, cookies are used to keep track of which postings on the forum you have already read and for logging into your forum account automatically if you wish to do so. No tracking cookies or other data storage mechanisms of any kind are used on the forum.

2.2 Ordering Online
When you place an online order, we need to know your name, email address, phone number, billing address and optionally credit card details. This allows us to process and fulfill your order and to notify you of your order status.

Our online shop uses a secure server. The secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. The customer data and orders we collect are protected against unauthorized access.

3. HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
EC Software generally uses your personal information to fulfill orders, process payments or perform credit check, as necessary, for interactive communications with you about our products, in order to prevent unlicensed or illegal use of EC Software software, to notify you by email or another medium about product upgrades, updated information, special offers and other new services or software offerings (you will be able to unsubscribe from emails by following the instructions at the bottom of our message).

4. HOW WE PROTECT AND STORE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
EC Software has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of your personal information under our control. These include a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to our systems. Inside EC Software, personal information and customer data is stored in password-controlled servers with limited and controlled access on a need-to-know basis. While we cannot guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration to data will not occur, we take many precautions to prevent such unfortunate occurrences. However, EC Software accepts no liability for any unintentional disclosure. Your personal information is never shared outside EC Software.

5. HOW WE USE COOKIES AND WEB LOGS
The public areas of this website do not use cookies. When someone visits the website, a cookie may be placed on the user’s machine (if the user accepts cookies) or is read if the user has visited the website previously. By modifying your browser preferences you can choose to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. If you choose to not have your browser accept cookies from the website, you still will be able to view the website without restrictions. Web logs automatically record anything a web server sees, which may include email addresses you enter into a form or pages viewed by a user at a particular IP address.

6. LINKS, DISCUSSION FORUM AND PUBLIC AREAS
Our website contains links to other sites. EC Software takes no responsibility for the content or the privacy policies and practices of such Web sites. EC Software encourages you to read the privacy statements of these linked sites; their privacy practices may differ from ours. Please remember that any information you submit in a discussion forum, message board or other such area will be deemed public information and is not confidential. There is a risk in such communication venues that information can be collected and used by others.

7. PROTECTION OF CHILDREN’S PERSONAL INFORMATION
