Help & Manual 3.3.1 (Preview version)

Unread post by Alexander Halser »

We are glad to announce the release of a preview version of Help & Manual 3.3.1. This version is a maintenance release and is available to all registered users from the registered user download area.

New features:
  • Browser based help: Help & Manual now creates a hybrid (both a Javascript version and a static version) of the table of contents to support browsers like Opera.

To avoid naming conflicts we have changed the default file and frame names of the browser based help output!! You will not experience any problems due to that change, except if you reference the files or frames directly. The changes are:

    Projectname_content.htm becomes $Projectname_content.htm (static TOC)
    Projectname_content.js becomes $Projectname_content.js (dynamic TOC)
    Projectname_kwindex.htm becomes $Projectname_kwindex.htm

The left and right frame have been changed as well:
From "toc" to "$hmtoc" (left navigation frame) and
from "content" to "$hmcontent" (right frame).

PDF Export: a new image compression option makes smaller PDF files. Help & Manual can compress PDF files using a JPEG compression with scaleable quality (setting is in Project|Properties). The PDF library is now included in the executable of Help & Manual and the external dll "echmpdf3.dll" is not longer used.

    • New syntax highlighter for Visual Objects

Text variables: the properties dialog box now has an Import and Export button for text variables.
Bug fixes:
  • • The export of help context numbers (help context tool) uses a lowercase #define now and has an option for how to encode topic anchors.
    • Multiple imports of help context numbers did not work! If you imported external map files with the new help context tool, please run the repair function on your help project.
    • Project report did not finish
    • HTML Help: the conversion of SHG images to JPEG failed with certain SHG files.
    • PNG images saved with Help & Manual, Impict and TNT did not include any dpi values, which caused some problems with GDI+ and Windows XP.
    • Impict: Screen capture failed on some Windows 98 machines
    • Impict: The dragging rectangle to insert new objects now works in all directions
    • Impict: Reverse insertion rectangle for arrows created an AV
    • Print manuals: multi-line headings in the TOC and corresponding page numbers were often misaligned.
