Find and Replace

Unread post by Tim Ross »

I have a few wishes for the Find & Replace function:

I'd like to see how many replacements have been made at the end of the operation.

I'd like to be returned to the place where I was working at the end of the operation

I'd like for both the find and replace fields to be either cleared, or contain the last used values. Currently, the find field is cleared and the replace field retains the last used value. It is very handy to retain the last search term in the find field when searching for multiple versions of the same term, i.e. a mix of Caps and lowercase, or when searching for instances of extensions with and without the full stop " . "

Will be implemented with the next update.

The logic behind the find & replace dialog is this: if you open the dialog, Help & Manual inserts the text that is currently selected, the replace term remains unchanged. I agree it would make sense to keep the old search term if there is no text selected when you re-open the find dialog box.

List of referenced topics.

How about functionality to list all topics that have reference on current?
This functionality seems used to be in earlier version, but it does not present now.

It was the other way round: each topic listed the topics it referred to, not the topics it was referred by. This function is covered by the project report in version 3. If you use the Search function in the Full Project Report you quickly find all topics (and images with hotspots) that refer to a particular topic.

I have another suggestion for find & replace.

When you are creating a glossary with invisible popup topics you then have to search through the entire document looking for instances where you have used a certain word in order to link it to the popup window.

How about, being able to replace plain text with links from within find & replace.

You can start the search at a particular topic instead of scanning the entire document. But in any case, the topic must be fully loaded to scan all it's fields, including topic text, keywords and links. So there's no advantage if this is done behind the scenes.
