Save syntax highlighting settings in style repository

Unread post by Andreas Boettcher »

The settings for syntax highlighting seem to be saved directly on an application level. Distributing setting changes or setting up the highlighter for fresh H&M installations is tedious and error-prone as a result, because every user needs to make the changes manually in their local copy of H&M.

An import and export function would help. However, I think the silver bullet would be to save the syntax highlighting settings on project level, including support for repository projects. This would ensure that highlighting is consistent across a project or all projects connected to a repository. Maintenance overhead would be smaller, too.

Hi Andreas,

We've discussed this and saving the settings in a repository would be too problematic for a number of technical reasons, resulting from the fact that the syntax highlighting settings are stored in the Windows Registry, not in projects. We have come up with a different solution for sharing them: The Syntax Highlighting configuration dialog now has a Load/Save Configuration button with which you can export and import the settings to share them in the team. You can download the current pre-release build of 7.3 here to get this feature, if you want:

http://download.ec-software.com/help-an ... 0-beta.exe

Note that the setting exports and imports ALL your syntax highlighting settings, and importing replaces all the current settings. It's not possible to just export and import for single languages, so take care. 8)
