Include variables in project reports

Unread postby Rainer Oehry » Wed Sep 05, 2018 1:16 pm

I would like to get information from the project reports regarding the usage of variables:

    • A list of all invalid variable references (non-existing variables) for each topic (similar to the "broken conditions")
    • A list of all unused variables (similar to the "unused images" summary)
Thank you for considering.

Hi Rainer,

Added to Wish List with the standard disclaimer (no promises)... 8)

However, the list of "invalid" variables would not really be valid, because it is quite possible to define variables that don't exist in the skin during publishing in a number of ways: with a skin, in the Publishing Task Manager and in publishing with a batch file with a /V switch for a variables definition file. It still might be useful to include the variables not defined in the project in the report, of course, but it would have to be with the caveat that that does not necessarily make them invalid.

Thank you, Tim.

The problem of variables that are not defined "locally", but ultimately will be defined during the publishing process, could be mitigated by using a naming convention — local variables could start with _LOC, all other unknown variables can be ignored for now. (This is also discussed in the adjacent topic regarding the modified display of unknown variables in the editor.)

Anyway, thanx already :D
