Alignment problems

Unread post by dhu »

While modifying an existing project, I just came across that .shg or .ipp files refuse to become aligned/positioned with any kind of layout tools. Using tabs or tables doesn't work at all. The more Hotspots are in a picture the more it moves to the right if you want to have all pictures aligned to the left margin e.g.
That's pretty annoying and spoils any efforts to get screenshots aligned...

This does not make sense.

I have an IPP Image with 13 hotspots, aligned to the left, and other images aligned in the centre and they all work perfectly.

Couple of suggestions -

a) Delete them, and put them back in again to make sure there are no funny characters to the left that you can not see.

b) Are you making surethat you resize the background correctly in Impict?? If the background was not resized then it is possible to end up with a wide transparent margin to the left of the image, and that would explain why it the part you can see is in the middle.

c) I am assuming that the text is correctly positioned, so if none of the above - Send the file to EC Support.

Hmm...the hotspots an image contains actually have no effect at all on the way it aligns. Are you sure the alignment mode of your image is set correctly? To check it double-click on the image and look in the Alignment section in the bottom right corner of the Open dialog that opens:

Text handles the image like a (very big!) single character in a line of text. Left and Right work pretty much like left and right alignment in HTML.

That's where I have to contradict. It is absolutely reproducable. With .shg files as well as with .ipp files.
All left margins are set to, say, 0.1inch, layout shortcuts are all based on this left margin also. As soon as I insert a (standard)picture, it appears pretty well aligned at that configured left margin after compiling.
When I replace that picture with (or insert a new) .shg or .ipp file based on that particular first picture, it is moved slightly to the right after compiling. The more to the right the more hotspots I use.
Sorry, I examined all pages and tested it thoroughly - the obviously only difference - when a picture was misaligned moved to the right - was the kind of the picture format: .shg or .ipp. As soon as I removed all hotspots and placed it back as a .png or .bmp file, it shows pretty well aligned to the configured margin....
Next to you.

That's what I have thought also at the beginning of my examinations...

Already done. No effect.

It was always correct. See my post to Tim Green
Send the file to EC Support.
Seems I have to...

I consider this to be a severe drawback in layout.
My project has 328 topics with 4488 local links and 464 graphics - and it looks quite messy with most of the graphics sitting at the left margin but others (with hotspots) moved to the right more or less...
This interferes with my esthetics

Whoops!

I just reproduced the error by putting two copies of a small rectangular .IPP graphic against the left margin, one with lots of hotspots and one with none. The version with the hotspots is indented slightly.

I checked the source HTML generated by loading it in Dreamweaver and I can also see what's causing it: H&M is inserting the large <map></map> tag pair containing the hotspot coordinates directly before the <img> tag, and although this should be invisible it's creating the indent. I was able to correct it in the source by moving the <map> tag and its contents directly before the preceding <br> line break tag, but this isn't something you'll want to do manually, it was just to see what's going on.

Please contact EC-Software about this...
