"Insert Plain HTML Code..." and referring to file

I am currently using the Trial Version of H&M 3.6, poised to purchase the Professional edition. I have basic HTML experience, so I'm not sure if this is strictly an HTML coding issue, or whether there exists within H&M a way to accomplish the following:

First of all, from Project Properties/Common Properties/Image Folders, I have defined the folders where I am storing images.

Then, within a topic, I use Insert/Plain HTML Code... to insert code that I created using Dreamweaver. The code includes the line:

<img src="picture.gif" align="left">

(The image exists in my Project folder)

However, upon compiling, I get only an image placeholder in this topic.

I do see the image if I modify the html code to include the exact path of the picture.gif file, but this is not ideal for several reasons.

Can anyone tell me if this an issue about html coding for which I am as yet unfamiliar, or is there a way within H&M to tell it to look for images without a specific path?

Welcome to the forum. When posting a question, always say which output
format you are wanting to create, because this may have a significant effect
on the correct answer!

There's no point in continuing to use the HM3.6 trial version, since the full
version was replaced yesterday with HM4.0 . Download the new trial version,
which contains lots of new goodies and some important differences in the way
of working.

That's a result of my hierarchical topic naming scheme, it looks funny in URLs but it's a godsend when you're trying to locate topic IDs for linking etc. because it means that everything is sorted exactly as shown in the TOC. See the sections on descriptive and hierarchical IDs here:

Well yes, I knew about that in theory, but it gets messy in practice. For example
that URL contains the word links - which the topic is not about. But it does not
include the word insert - which it is very much about. I'm not convinced that the
resulting ID would be very easy to find after several months.

Furthermore (wonderful word when you are in the middle of an argument!), if
you copy the URL from the bottom of the page it includes the index.html? element
which means that a fair chunk of the screen is used up with the H&M logo stuff.
If you right-click in the TOC instead and copy the URL that way, you get the help
text full screen. Any thoughts on this? Why include the index.html? part if the
URL works just as well without?
